Aptiva - EMEA - Homologation tips relating to AT&T Modem and Mwave and number of rings

Applicable to: EMEA

Santeelah Modem and Ring Central Homologation Tips:
Q: In the settings of Ring Central I am allowed to set the number of rings before answer from two rings to six rings. Does the software setting and the homologation requirement actually match ?

A: Not necessarily. The software (Ring Central) may give you the possibility of setting a broader range of rings than the modem will support. There is a homologation requirement to pick up in five rings, if the software is set to answer in six rings. the modem will pick up in five rings.
The number of rings to pick up is ultimately determined by the modem. The S0 register in a modem stores the number of rings to pick up in. If the software package (or the user) tries to set the S0 register to a value beyond its allowed range, the modem will simply set the register to the maximum (or minimum) permissible value.

Q: Is there a way to extend the number of rings (so that the Ring Central and homologation work together properly) ?

A: No. The range in the number of rings that a modem will pick up in is dictated by the homologation requirements of a particular country. These are legal requirements IBM MUST comply with. Extending the number of rings would be in violation of the law.

IBM must be absolutely sure of a country's requirements before making any changes to a product.

Mwave Modem and Communication Centre Homologation Tip:
Q: The Communication Centre allows me to set the answer after "xx" ring option(Settings/Answering Machine), but regardless of what the I set it to, the modem answers after 3 rings.

For Example: I specify to answer after nine rings, the modem answers after three.

Is this a homologation issue , or is there a soulution?

A: It appears that the maximum number of rings the Mwave is set to pick up after is not correct, Mwave engineering has stated that the number of rings to pickup should be 5, rather than 3 as it is set to now.

There is a file that can be applied

Solution:
A new patch file has been created to fix this problem. This patch is included in the 20D version of the Mwave drivers. You can find the 20D drivers by clicking here

NOTE: Please select the Mwave drivers appropriate for your model.
