Netfinity 5500 - ECA 023: New cable management arm and rack mounting flanges

PURPOSE:
This ECA provides for installation of FBM kit FRU p/n28L0631 to replace one (1) Cable Management Arm, and / or four (4) rail mounting flanges contained in "Rack Accessory Kit" p/n12J3777 which shipped in some Servers.
Servers eligible under this ECA must hold true to the "Physical Check" section of this document.
FBM kit FRU p/n28L0631 contains an improved design of four (4) rail mounting flanges and one (1) Cable Management Arm.
This ECA does NOT provide for installing a Netfinity server 5500 Type 8660 into a customer rack, and it does NOT provide for installing a "Tower To Rack Conversion Kit" Option p/n01K8020 (FRU p/n03K8775).
This ECA023 will expire March 31, 2005.

PHYSICAL CHECK:
All of the following must be true for this ECA to be applied for purposes of replacing the Cable Management Arm Assembly:
- The System is a Netfinity 5500 server Type 8660 Model 1RU, 1RX, 4RU presently mounted in a supported* EIA Rack fitted with a Cable Management arm that Protrudes beyond the rear of the Rack Enclosure approximately eight (8) inches when the Server is located in the "in" position within the Rack Enclosure.
- The Cable Management Arm to be replaced (described above) is from the original "Rack Accessory Kit" p/n12J3777 that shipped with the System and does NOT have hinge plates riveted to the Cable Management Arms.
All of the following must be true for this ECA to be applied for purposes of replacing four (4) rail mounting flanges:
- The System is a Netfinity 5500 server Type 8660 Model 1RU, 1RX, 4RU that cannot be mounted in a supported* EIA Rack due to the holes of the mounting rail flanges will not line-up to the center of the Rack rail mounting holes to allow both fasteners to be used per flange.
- The mounting rail flanges impeding the installation of the System (described above) are from the original "Rack Accessory Kit" p/n12J3777 that shipped with the System.
* Supported EIA Rack:
An industry standard 19-inch rack cabinet that meets the EIA-310-D standards for depth of at least 30 inches and if equipped with a front door, has a rack rail to front door minimum clearance of 50.8mm (2 in.) which has square, round, or round threaded rail holes.
NOTE:
The "Tower to Rack Conversion Kit" Option p/n01K8020 (FRU p/n03K8775) is NOT affected, and does NOT apply to this ECA.

DETAIL:
The Cable Management Arm and the rail mounting flanges that are provided in the "Rack Accessory Kit" p/n12J3777 which ships with the Netfinity 5500 server Type 8660 model 1RU, 1RX, 4RU have been improved by design and are packaged in FBM Kit FRU p/n28L0631.
The change to the Cable Management Arm ensures that the Arm assembly folds within the rear confines of supported* EIA Racks.
The change to the rail mounting flanges allow mounting the Server in an industry standard 19-inch rack cabinet that meets the EIA-310-D standards for depth of at least 30 inches, and has a rack rail to front door minimum clearance of 50.8mm (2 in.) which has square, round, or round threaded rail holes.
Customers may request this ECA be applied if their System holds true to the "PHYSICAL CHECK" section of this document by calling (in the US) IBM Serve at 1-800-IBM-SERV or (elsewhere) by contacting their Service Provider (either IBM PSS, or an IBM Authorized Servicer).
NOTE:
The "Rack Accessory Kit" p/n12J3777 shipped with a limited number of rack-mount Netfinity 5500 servers Type 8660 models 1RU, 1RX, 4RU. These model Servers presently ship with a new "Rack Accessory Kit" p/n 28L0645** or 28L0646** which include the improved design Cable Management Arm and rail mount flanges.
** P/n28L0645 and 28L0646 are not Option or FRU part numbers.
ACTION:
If the System holds true to the "PHYSICAL CHECK" section of this document, then apply this ECA as follows:
Order FBM Kit FRU p/n28L0631 and install the new components (whichever apply) per the instruction sheets contained in the FBM Kit.
NOTE:
DO NOT attempt to apply this ECA for purposes of upgrading a Tower Model Server to a Rack Model. The FBM kit only provides a few improved design components to the original "Rack Accessory Kit" p/n12J3777 that shipped with the Netfinity 5500 server Rack Models.
NOTES:
- This ECA is "AS REQUIRED".
- This ECA will expire on March 31, 2005.

IBM PSS CE's should record all time and parts to Service Code 33, ECA023, other Office 990. FBM Kit FRU p/n28L0631 should be ordered code "B".
Scrap removed parts locally.
- EMEA:
IBM PSS CE's should record all time and parts to Service Code 33 (8660), ECA023, other Office 990.
