Aptiva - 2140/2142 Considerations - Access Aptiva

Applicable to: World-Wide

Access Aptiva covers up applications and icons.

Detail:
When Access Aptiva is active, it will cover up any applications or icons on that side of the screen.

Answer / Workaround:
Access Aptiva is an application just as others are, if it is lauched, it will cover anything behind it. To get to those icons or applications, MINIMIZE or close Access Aptiva.

Access Aptiva repaints slowly after EZButtons message is displayed or window is moved from on top of Access Aptiva.

Detail:
Access Aptiva repaints slowly after EZButtons message is displayed or window is moved from on top of Access Aptiva. If you press an EZButton, a message displays showing what application is going to launch, or if there is a window covering all or part of Access Aptiva, and is then moved away, there is a delay as Access Aptiva repaints itself.

Answer / Workaround:
Access Aptiva must repaint each time, it will sometimes take several seconds to repaint, however, most often it repaints without noticable delay. This is working as designed.

Severity: 3

Clicking functions inconsistent and strange.

Detail:
When in Access Aptiva, if the user clicks to select certain items they may not receive the expected action. For example: If the customer double-clicks to open a heading, the sound is played but the menu is not opened.

Answer / Workaround:
Access Aptiva is an HTML/JAVA application and follows the 'rules' of HTML rather than those of 'normal' applications. A double-click is considered two individual clicks (this one opens it, the other closes it).

Order of menu items in the start menu should be the same.

Detail:
The menu options in AccessAptiva, are not in the same order as those on the START menu.

Answer / Workaround:
This issue is deferred to the next program. All icons still work, customer may just be confused by the order.

Access Aptiva moves when you change position of Windows task bar.

Detail:
If you move the Win95 task bar to the right side of screen, top of screen, then back to bottom of screen, Access Aptiva will move away from the task bar. This leaves Access Aptiva toward the middle of the screen, rather than on the side as it was.

Answer / Workaround:
To correct problem, simply close and re-open Access Aptiva. Since Access Aptiva is simply an application running in a Window, the task bar will move it as it does other applications. This is working as designed.

Severity: 4
Preload(s): Both

There is about an 8 second delay from when Access Aptiva comes up and when the menu options are available.

Detail:
This depends on processor speed, and other factors. During this time, Access Aptiva is loading the menu graphics and sound effects.

Answer / Workaround:
This is working as designed.

Names on Start menu do not match menu titles in Access Aptiva.

Detail:
For example, in Access Aptiva a menu option is titled "Customize My Desktop", where in the Start Menu, it is titled "Aptiva Desktop Customization".

Answer / Workaround:
The menu titles in Access Aptiva were written to be instructions or tips for the users. In the Start menu, it is simply the application title.

Disabling Multimedia Effects should uncheck sub-options also.

Detail:
Start "Customize Aptiva", and uncheck "Enable Multimedia Effects". The two items under MM Effects become grayed out but they remain checked. The only way to uncheck them is to recheck MM Effects first.

Answer / Workaround:
The options will remained checked until you click OK to apply the changes. If you relaunch the customization, they will then be unchecked (still grayed out though).

Detail:

Answer / Workaround:
Whenever the display settings are altered the user should restart the computer and Access Aptiva

Start-up shortcut to Access Aptiva not removed with Add/Remove Programs.

Detail:
The start-up shortcut to access aptiva is not removed if you remove Access Aptiva with the add/remove Programs icon. To Recreate: 1) Aptiva-ize, 2) Go to control Pannel -> Add / Remove Programs, 3) Remove Access Aptiva, 4) Restart computer, 5) On boot, system says "missing shortcut" and searches for the access shortcut.

Answer / Workaround:
Since this icon is being placed in the Startup folder by the Aptiva-ize process, the uninstall program can not take care of this. This must be removed manually using properties from the task bar. The steps to remove are as follows: 1) Right click on the task bar, 2) Click on Properties, 3) Click on the Start Menu Programs tab, 4) Click "Remove", 5) Scroll down and double click on "Startup", 6) Click on "Access Aptiva" then click "Remove", 7) Click on "Close" then "OK".
