TP 600 - General Overview for models...

Applicable to: World-Wide

OVERVIEW[</font>]

The new ThinkPad 600 model is the perfect balance between GREAT MOBILITY and PERFORMANCE. The most notable feature of the ThinkPad 600 is its
* THINNESS. The thin and light form factor of the ThinkPad 600 gives you substantial computing capabilities wherever you are -- at home, in the office, or on the go. At only 1.4-inches thin, and weighing less than 2.1 kg (4.7 lb)(1) with the battery and weight saver bezel, the ThinkPad 600 delivers the processing power and screen size you expect in a note book.

LATEST INTEL(R) TECHNOLOGY:
This model features the Mobile Pentium(R) II processor at 233 MHz(2) plus:
o 512K L2 cache
o 24X-10X variable speed CD-ROM drive standard
o Large 3.2 GB(3) HDD
o New, fast 144-pin, 64-bit SDRAM SO DIMM, 3 V, non-parity memory(4)
o 32 MB SDRAM of memory standard

BEAUTIFUL, BRIGHT DISPLAY:
12.1-inch (measured diagonally) TFT with 800 x 600 resolution

INCREDIBLE SIZE, OPTIMIZED FLEXIBILITY: With the new UltraslimBay(TM) you can configure the ThinkPad 600 to meet most of your computing needs. The UltraslimBay supports an FDD or a 24X-10X CD-ROM(5) and provides easy, warm swapping of these components with minimal down time.

NEW LS-120 SUPERDISK DRIVE: Introducing the exciting new SuperDisk (LS-120) drive. This new ThinkPad 600 UltraslimBay option increases storage up to 120 MB on a single 3.5-inch diskette. You can store large data files -- even back up your hard disk drives. The LS-120 option provides improved performance on removable storage media and is backwards compatible with 1.44 MB and 720 KB DOS-formatted diskettes. The LS-120 option fits easily in the UltraslimBay.

IMPROVEMENTS IN EASE OF USE: Featuring improved online help, more concise user's manuals, and more intuitive icons on the keyboard, the ThinkPad 600 is IBM's easiest ThinkPad to start up and operate.

INVESTMENT PROTECTION: The ThinkPad 600 uses existing docking solutions for convenience and productivity.

ROBUST SYSTEM MANAGEABILITY: The ThinkPad 600 complies with:
o The industry standard Desktop Management Interface (DMI)
o Wake on LAN support via the optional SelectaDock III
o Thermal monitoring
o Local and remote asset management and asset security via passwords and locks
o Early detection of a hard drive failure
o Wired for Management (WfM) baseline requirements for mobile systems

VERSATILE TRACKPOINT(TM): Press-to-Select and Release-to-Select features allow tapping of the TrackPoint pointing device to speed icon launches and reduce keystrokes.

Notes:
(1) Actual weight may vary depending on features, vendor components, or manufacturing process. Weight does not include external diskette drive or CD-ROM drive. Weight includes battery and weight saver bezel.
(2) MHz only measures microprocessor internal clock speed, not application performance. Many factors affect application performance.
(3) GB equals one billion bytes and MB equals one million bytes when referring to hard disk. Capacity available for end-user may be less.
(4) The IBM ThinkPad 600 notebook is also designed to recognize up to 288 MB of addressable memory in the models with the new Mobile Pentium II processor. Current available memory options allow memory expansion up to 160 MB using two 64MB SDRAM SO DIMMs in the two available slots for memory expansion. Memory expansion beyond 160MB will depend on the availability of memory options larger than 64MB SDRAM SO DIMMs built to IBM ThinkPad specifications. Such availability cannot be guaranteed.
(5) Variable read rate. Actual playback speed will vary and is often less than the maximum possible.

KEYBOARD AND TRACKPOINT WITH ENHANCED FEATURES: The keyboard has the familiar layout of a ThinkPad notebook with a function key capability that allows you to quickly access system functions, such as power management control.

The TrackPoint with enhanced features incorporates the Press-to-Select and Release-to-Select function of the TrackPoint.

Just tap the TrackPoint to speed icon launches and reduce keystrokes. The new programmable center button enables fast scrolling of Web sites and documents, or fast panning across wide spreadsheets. Or, switch to the innovative magnifying glass feature to enlarge screen views in any application.

PROCESSOR: Mobile Pentium II at 233 MHz with 512 KB of L2 cache and floating-point decimal, providing exceptional performance.

MEMORY: Uses the new, fast 144-pin, 64-bit SDRAM SO DIMM, 3V, non-parity memory; 32 MB of SDRAM SO DIMM system memory (RAM) is standard. The ThinkPad 600 recognizes up to 288 MB of addressable memory with the Mobile Pentium II processors at 233 MHz. Current available memory options allow memory expansion up to 160 MB using two 64 MB SDRAM SO DIMMs in the two available slots for memory expansion. Memory expansion beyond 160 MB depends on the availability of memory options larger than 64 MB SDRAM SO DIMMs that meet ThinkPad 600 specifications. Such availability cannot be guaranteed.

PCMCIA: The Type III slot accommodates either two Type I, two Type II, or one Type III PC card. The slot supports the CardBus adapters(6), PC card, and the Zoomed Video (ZV) adapter.

(6) Currently available in DOS, Windows 3.1, and Windows 95

STORAGE: The removable, installable hard drive is 3.2 GB standard. You can easily upgrade to a larger HDD when greater capacity is required. The 1.44 MB diskette drive (FDD) comes standard and can be plugged directly into the ThinkPad 600 UltraslimBay(R) or attached externally for added flexibility.

AUDIO: The audio capability on the system board and the integrated microphone allow voice annotation and audio capability. The system is equipped with audio in/out jacks for stereo speakers, headphone, or external microphone. The system supports Sound Blaster audio applications.

INFRARED: The system has one fast (up to 4.0 Mbps) IR transceiver for wireless file and data transfer and printing. The ThinkPad 600 is designed for compliance with the Infrared Data Association (IrDA) IR data link specification Version 1.1 (up to 4 Mbps).

OTHER FEATURES: The ThinkPad 600 systems have the full complement of ports (enhanced parallel, serial, external display, and USB port). The FDD external attachment port is standard on all 600 models. In addition, a 240-pin connector supports the following:

THINKPAD DOCKING SOLUTIONS
o SelectaBase 600
o SelectaDock III via the SelectaBase 600

DOCKING SOLUTION DETAILS
