TP Dock I, DOCK II - Installing SCSI drivers

Applicable to: World-Wide

Dock I
Installing the OS/2 Device Drivers
1. Turn on all attached devices, then turn on the computer and wait for OS/2 to begin loading.
2. From the OS/2 desktop, open the OS/2 System icon.
3. From the OS/2 System window, open the System Setup icon.
4. From the System Setup window, open the Selective Install icon. The System Configuration panel appears.
5. In the panel, identify SCSI Adapter Support. Then click on the OK button. Highlight the Future Domain** 850IBM from the Select SCSI Adapter(s) menu. Then click on the OK button.

Note: This only installs the SCSI adapter support. It does not install support for the SCSI device attached to the docking station (except for SCSI hard drives). You need to refer to the instructions that came with the SCSI device to install the OS/2 device drivers for the device.

Installing the DOS Device Drivers
1. If the SCSI device being installed is one of these, then continue on to the next step. If not, refer to the installation instructions supplied with the SCSI device to install the DOS drivers for this device.
- IBM PS/2 CD-ROM Drive
- IBM 3.5-inch Rewritable Optical Disk Drive
- IBM 5.25-inch Rewritable Optical Disk Drive
2. Insert the Dock I Option Diskette into drive A. At the operating system prompt, type UINSTALL and press Enter.
3. A window appears title Installation Source Drive. Make sure the source drive is the drive the diskette is installed in and then press Enter. A window appears that prompts you to insert the source medium into the source drive (i.e. make sure the option diskette is in the floppy drive) and then press Enter.
4. A screen titled Installation Options appears with the three devices listed above. Select one of the devices and press Enter.
5. Use the letter and path of the name of the drive where you want this device driver to be installed. The default is C:\. Press Enter. The installation process begins. Follow the screen prompts to complete the option installation.
6. The installation is complete. Press F3 to exit the Installation Options menu.

Note: SCSI hard disk drives, when attached to the Dock I SCSI controller under IBM DOS, require no device drivers. Follow the instructions with the IBM DOS User's Guide to prepare the drives for use.

Installing the Windows 95 Device Drivers
There are no specific instructions for installing SCSI drivers for Windows 95 for the Dock I. Windows 95 will automatically detect and install the appropriate driver.

Dock II
Installing EZ-SCSI for Windows
1. Start Windows.
2. Insert the docking station option diskette into the diskette drive.
3. Select File and Run from the Program Manager menu bar. When the Run dialogue box appears, enter a:\setup if you are using the A drive, or b:\setup if you are using the B drive.
4. Click OK. A message appears while the Adaptec EZ-SCSI loads into memory.
5. Click Install Adaptec EZ-SCSI to continue with the installation. Click Help on any screen window to view more information. To close a Help window, select File and Exit, or double click on the control menu box in the upper left corner of the window.
6. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen. Click Continue, Install, or OK to continue with the installation and accept the EZ-SCSI default values.

If you accept all the default values, EZ-SCSI:
- Decompresses and copies the files to the C:\SCSI directory. (It creates this directory if it does not already exist.)
- Adds command lines to your computer's configuration files (AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS or both) that load the required device drivers into memory when you start your computer.

Follow the instructions on the screen if you want to copy the files to a different directory or control the changes to your configuration files.

The last EZ-SCSI screen has three buttons:
- Click on Reboot to restart your computer and activate the newly installed EZ-SCSI device drivers.
- Click on Return to Windows to exit EZ-SCSI and keep working in Windows without restarting your computer. You must restart your computer later to activate the new configuration.
- Click on View README to view the information in the README.TXT file.

When you return to Windows before or after restarting your computer, you will see the Adaptec SCSI group, which contains icons for several EZ-SCSI applications and information files.

Installing EZ-SCSI for DOS
1. Insert the docking station option diskette into the diskette drive on your computer.
2. At the DOS prompt, change to the drive letter where you inserted the diskette.
3. Type dosinst and press Enter. A message appears while Adaptec EZ-SCSI loads into memory.
4. When the first EZ-SCSI screen appears, read the text carefully. You can press F1 for additional Help text on any screen. (Press Esc to exit a Help screen.)
5. Press Enter to continue with the installation.
6. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen. Press Enter at every screen to accept the EZ-SCSI default values. (Press Esc to continue after EZ-SCSI enters changes to your system configuration files.)

If you want to copy the files to a different directory or control the changes to your configuration files, follow the instructions on the screen. Press F1 on any screen to see more information.

7. When you see the final screen and the message Adaptec EZ-SCSI has been successfully installed....press Enter or Esc to exit EZ-SCSI. Then restart your computer.

Installing the OS/2 Device Drivers
Note: It is important that you have the ThinkPad Features installed on your system first. If you are running Warp 4, then you must also install Docking Station Support under Selective Install prior to installing SCSI support.
Highlight the Adaptec 1520 from the Select SCSI Adapter(s) menu. Then click on the OK button.

Note: This only installs the SCSI adapter support. It does not install support for the SCSI device attached to the docking station (except for SCSI hard drives). You need to refer to the instructions that came with the SCSI device to install the OS/2 device drivers for the device.

Installing the Windows 95 Device Drivers
There are no specific instructions for installing SCSI drivers for Windows 95 for the Dock I. Windows 95 will automatically detect and install the appropriate driver.
