TP 600,770/ED - Fatal exception error or system locks-up when greater than 190MB memory is installed
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
On ThinkPad 600 and 770/ED, Fatal Exception (0E) occurs during the booting of the machine.
Configuration:
ThinkPad with internal ACP modem without the v.90 upgrade and greater than 190MB memory is installed. For example, a 128MB DIMM installed in slot 1 and 2 or a combination of a 128MB and a 64MB DIMM are installed.
Note: Not all ThinkPad 600's and 770's come with an internal ACP modem.
Workaround:
Remove RAM in the system so that the maximum amount of RAM installed is less than 192 MB of memory.
Solution:
The IBM 128MB SDRAM DIMM option includes a diskette, "ThinkPad ACP Patch for ThinkPad 600, 770, and 770ED" which will fix this problem. Also updating the ACP modem code to v.90 will correct the problem.

Additional information:
Maximum memory recognized will vary by machine based on hardware limitations. Also supported memory technology may vary by machine type. Refer to the specifications for the specific model.
