TP General - Installing the ESS audio driver for Windows 3.1x

This document explains how to install the ESS audio drivers for Windows 3.1x on your Thinkpad 365CD/CSD/X/XD, 560/E, 701, 760L/LD/EL/ELD, and 765L systems. To obtain the latest version of the audio features diskette click on the links below:

To install the audio drivers for Windows 3.1x, follow these steps:
1.) Insert the audio features diskette for Windows into the floppy drive. On the ThinkPad 701, insert disk 1 of the audio features diskette.
2.) Click on File, then Run, and type a:\setup in the dialog box and click on OK.
3.) At the Audio Applications Setup window, click on Continue.
4.) At the next window, you will be given the option of installing of installing drivers or installing software. Click on Driver Installation. If you are installing this on a ThinkPad 701, then you must click on Automatic Board Configuration and then you will be given the option to click on Driver Installation.
5.) After it has finished installing the drivers, you are given the option of restarting the Windows, or to install software. Click on the Install Software button.
6.) You will be asked where you want to install the software. Click on OK to accept the default. If the directory does not already exist, you will be asked if you want to create it. Click Create Directory.
7.) You will then be given the option of doing a complete installation or a custom installation. Click on Complete Installation to continue. On the ThinkPad 701, when prompted, insert disk 2.
8.) After the installation is complete, you will be prompted to restart Windows. Click on Restart Windows. After Windows has restarted, you may remove the diskette from the diskette drive.

The installation adds the following lines to the appropriate section of the system.ini file:
