CrossBrand - Windows95 MWave 2.22 Support in MSDOS Mode

Applicable to: United States

After upgrading from a previous version of MWave to MWave 2.22 for WIN 95, the following procedure must be performed in order to get modem or soundblaster support in MS DOS mode. This procedure is not required when MWave 2.22 has been loaded from scratch;

Exit to MS DOS by selecting Start + Shutdown + Restart the Computer in MS DOS mode. This is required to get the 'Exit to DOS' item in the Windows folder.

Type EXIT and press ENTER to get back to Windows 95.

Select Start + Programs + Explorer, click on the Windows folder. Highlight 'Exit to DOS' on the right side of the screen. Right click and select Properties. Click on the Program Tab and then click Advanced. Make sure the 'Specify a new MS DOS Configuration' is highlighted. Click OK twice. Close Explorer.

Restart in MS DOS mode by selecting Start + Shutdown + Restart Computer in MS DOS mode.

Change to the root directory and edit the Autoexec.bat file;
CD\
EDIT Autoexec.bat

There are various references to the C:\MWD directory. They should all be changed to C:\MWW.

When done, the MWave section of Autoexec.bat should read as follows:

SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1
SET PS2MSG=C:\THINKPAD\PS2.MSG
SET PS2MSG=C:\THINKPAD\PS2.MSG
SET MWPATH=C:\MWW
MANAGER; C:\MWW\DLL
SET LIBPATH=C:\MWW\MANAGER
SET MWROOT=C:\MWW

CALL MWAVE START NOSHOW

Save your changes, exit the editor and type EXIT to return to Windows 95.

Restart in MS DOS mode by selecting Start + Shutdown + Restart Computer in MS DOS mode.

Type FASTCFG and choose whether you want to utilize the SOUND or MODEM capabilities of MWave.

MWave should now be working in MS DOS mode.

MWave 2.22 does not properly populate the BIOS data tables in MS DOS mode so if you use DEBUG (D40:00)
to view whether the com port is active it will return 00:00. Most DOS communications programs should initialize the modem fine.
