Aptiva - Using a second hard drive as a target for Backup

Applicable to: United States

You can set up CPBACKUP (Central Point Backup) to use a hard drive as a backup target, rather than the floppy drive or tape. On the main backup screen, locate the Backup To: field. Click on it to see if there is an option there for a DOS drive and path. If one is present, select it to be the backup target.

If the Backup To: field does not show a hard drive directory, select Configure from the top menu bar and then select Choose Drive and Media. Select the Fixed Drive & Path button, and then click on OK. This will bring up a data entry window with a default drive and path. You can accept this default, or you can change it to a different drive and path. Click on OK and this drive/path will now appear in the Backup To: field. If the path does not exist, the program will offer to create the path on that drive for you.

If you have a removable cartridge drive, you may be able to set up this drive as the backup target. Examples of removable cartridge drives include the Iomega Zip drive, Bernoulli drives, and the Syquest cartridge drives. In order to use these drives with CPBACKUP, they must have a drive letter, which generally means that they must be SCSI drives. Drives that hook up to a parallel port may or may not have a drive letter. Refer to the setup instructions for that drive to determine if there is a way to do this.
