IBM 3153 ASCII Terminal Display - Setting and resetting the setup menu password
Applicable to: World-Wide
The 3153 has setup menu password protection capability.
If the 3153 has an RS232 serial port, the Transmit Data Pin (Pin 2) and the Receive Data Pin (3) can be 'wrapped together'.
To set the password:
The 3153 setup menu can be password protected by the 3153 receiving the following command:
ESC _ p (password character string) ESC \
The hex equivalent is:
x'1B' x'5F' x'70' (password character string) x'1B' x'5C'
If a user tries to enter the 3153 setup menu, a password input field is displayed. When the correct password is entered the 3153 setup menus will appear.
To clear the password:
The 3153 password protect setup menu can be disabled by the 3153 receiving the following command:
ESC _ p ESC \
The hex equivalent is:
x'1B' x'5F' x'70' x'1B' x'5C'
This feature prevents users from accidentally or intentionally changing the 3153 setup parameters from the setup menus.
