OS/2 Warp v3 and v4 Troubleshooting:

PC Card is not recognized:
If a beep occurs when the PC Card has been installed, the PC Card is configured correctly. If a beep is not heard when the PC Card is installed:

  1. Ensure that the drive has been correctly connected.
  2. Ensure that PCMCIA support has been installed for the system, and that the PC Card slots are active.
  3. A system resource conflict may exist. You may specify a specific I/O port to use with the /P: setting or exclude a specific IRQ to avoid with the /EXIRQ: setting with CD20XCRD.SYS line from CONFIG.SYS. Example: DEVICE=DEVICE=C:\OS2\CD20XCRD.SYS /P:230 /EXIRQ:3 will specify to use I/O port 230 and exclude IRQ 3 from use.

No CD ROM icon appears:
The CD ROM icon appears even if the PC Card is not inserted when the 20X Max Portable or Portable Stereo CD ROM Drive drivers have been installed. The drive can be accessed when the drivers have been loaded correctly and the drive is properly connected. If no icon appears, ensure that CD ROM support has been installed.

The following lines are added to the CONFIG.SYS for CD ROM Support:
DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD,
IFS=C:OS2\BOOT\CDFS.IFS
DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\VCDROM.SYS
BASEDEV=CD20XROM.ADD
DEVICE=C:\OS2\CD20XCRD.SYS

If the User's Guide and above steps fail to resolve your issue, see Appendix D of your User's Guide for Help and Service Information.

Installing OS/2 Warp v3 with the 20X Max Portable Drive:
To install OS/2 Warp v3 with the 20X Max Portable or Portable Stereo CD ROM Drive, OS/2 Warp Diskette 1 must be modified.

  1. Copy OS/2 Warp Diskette 1 to a new diskette.
  2. To obtain enough space on the floppy diskette for the device drivers to be copied, delete files that are unnecessary for OS/2 Warp installation. Insert the copy of Diskette 1 created from step 1 into the floppy diskette drive, and delete files named AHA*.* with the following command: DEL A:AHA*.ADD. This command deletes drivers related to SCSI Adapters.
  3. Copy PCMCIA support drivers to the copy of Diskette 1. You will need to copy PCMCIA.SYS and IBM2SS01.SYS from the OS/2 CD to the diskette. If the target system is a PCI Bus machine, copy IBM2SS14.SYS instead of IBM2SS01.SYS. If the target system is an MCA machine, copy IBM2SS02.SYS instead of IBM2SS01.SYS.
  4. Copy the following files from the option diskette for the 20X Max Portable or Portable Stereo CD ROM Drive to the copy of diskette 1:
    CD20XROM.ADD
    CD20XCRD.SYS

5. Use an editor program to edit CONFIG.SYS from the copy of diskette 1.
Remove or remark the following lines:
basedev=aha152x.add
basedev=aha154x.add
basedev=aha164x.add
basedev=aha174x.add

Add the following lines:
basedev=pcmcia.sys
basedev=ibm2ss01.sys
basedev=cd20xrom.add
device=\cd20xcrd.sys

If the target system is an MCA machine, add basedev=ibm2ss02.sys instead of basedev=ibm2ss01.sys. If the target system is a PCI Bus machine, add basedev=ibm2ss14.sys instead of basedev=ibm2ss01.sys.

To install OS/2 Warp v3 with the 20X Max Portable or Portable Stereo CD ROM Drive:
