Aptiva - What Memory can be used
Applicable to: World-Wide
Aptiva systems ship with non-parity memory. Normally we would recommend upgrading with additional non-parity SIMMs for the simple reason that they are cheaper.
However some customers may have "surplus" single-RAS parity SIMMs (eg as used in VP-Si and VP-p systems) and have asked whether they can be used too. The answer is "yes". If parity and non-parity SIMMs are mixed, then ALL memory will be accessed in non-parity mode. If the standard non-parity SIMMs are replaced then memory will be parity checked.
