Aptiva - 2168 CD-ROM 4-disk changer information

Applicable to: World-Wide

The following is a list of frequently asked questions about the 4 disk CD-ROM changer in the Aptiva 2168-A44/A45

Question:
How do you insert 4 CDs in the changer drive as there is only one opening?
Answer:
There are four buttons on the front panel labeled from 1 to 4. Each button represents one "drive". Each button has a
corresponding yellow light above it. When the light is lit, there is a CD-ROM inside it. When the light is blank, there is no
CD-ROM inside. When the lights are flashing, the CD-ROM is in use. When a button is depressed, the door will open and eject the current CD for that drive. If no CD-ROM is inside when you press the button, the door will remain open. Insert the CD-ROM label side up and push gently, the mechanism will take the CD (very similar to a front loading VCR). If you decide not to put a CD in, push the same button and the door will close.

Question:
Can you play multiple CDs at one time. For example, have a music CD playing while playing a CD-ROM game?
Answer:
There is only one read laser in the CD-ROM. This means that the CD-ROM can only read one CD-ROM at a time (similar to
a Jukebox). You can load four CDs into the machine but they will have to be accessed one at a time.

Question:
What happens if I try to run 2 or more music CDs and or 2 application CDs at the same time?
Answer:
The changer will swap between the two CDs causing the music CD and or application CD to wait for the other CD to be finished. It is not recommended that you try playing more than one CD at any one time.

Question:
Can I insert 2 or more music CDs and listen to tracks on both of them?
Answer:
If you use Audio Station or CD Player, there is an option to choose which CD you want to play. Just select which CD and let it
play. You can play some tracks from one CD and some tracks from the other CD just as in a jukebox.

Question:
Does each CD-ROM Changer have its own drive letter ID?
Answer:
Double-click on the "MY COMPUTER" icon and you will see that D: E: F: G: all exist as CD-ROMs. They can be accessed just like any other CD-ROM drive.

Question:
If I run a CD-ROM application that has multiple CDs (such as Silent Steel) how does the machine know which changer to look in to find the program?
Answer:
The computer will cycle through all of the available drive letters until it finds the one required to run the program.

Question:
I have 4 music CDs in the drive and when I use Media Player, it cannot see all of the CDs?
Answer:
If you wish to play more than one music CD in your Aptiva A44, A55 with the 4 disk CD changer, you should use the
Audio Station program. It will allow you to select music tracks spanning all four CDs. To start it, click on "Start", choose
"Programs", choose "Aptiva Entertainment", and select "Music Center". Now click on the "Audio Station" button to open it. Note: The CD changer has one read laser. This means you can only play one CD track at a time.
