T55D 15" TFT LCD Digital Color Monitor - Product Overview

IBM intends to announce an optional internal PCI P&D Digital Video Adapter that can plug directly into system boards with a spare PCI slot. This only represents IBM's plan to announce this option and is not a committment that the option will be announced or made available. IBM plans are subject to change without notice.

Note: The T55D Digital flat panel color monitors require a digital graphics controller in your system. This controller must adhere to the VESA Plug & Display Standard Interface. IBM T55D models DW1 and DG1 include an adapter for the customer to install in their system. Models DW0 and DG0 do not include an adapter. Third Party OEM Adapter offerings are anticipated to emerge in the marketplace beginning in fourth quarter 1998. Customers should only purchase models DW0, or DG0 only if they plan use a third party OEM P&D compliant adapter when they are available.

ENERGY STAR is a U.S. registered mark. As an Energy Star Partner, IBM has determined that this product meets Energy Star Guidelines for energy efficiency.

Key Prerequisites:

• The T55D attaches via a Plug & Display (P&D) A/D Video Adapter to: either an AGP-ATX or AGP-NLX slot or on-board VESA P&D* digital video.
• P&D Digital Video Adapters are available with T55D monitor or should be available from third-parties in near future.
• IBM P&D AGP (Advanced Graphics Port) card uses a Matrox G200 Graphics 2D/3D Controller with 8 MB SDRAM that can be upgraded to 16 MB.

The new T55D color monitor features:

Acoustics:

Hardware Requirements:
Monitors: Monitors require an adapter that provides VESA P&D timings

Adapters: Adapters require to be plugged into a system unit with an Advanced Graphics Port (AGP) slot.

T55D Supplied with AGP P&D Digital video adapter card: If the Video Adapter is part of the unit supplied by IBM it will support the screen modes in following table. P&D adapters provided by third-party suppliers may differ. The actual display modes used depend upon the operating system, and application software.

National Language Support for Asia Pacific, Canada, Europe/Middle East/Africa, and Latin America is a function of the graphic adapter in the system unit and the application or support software.

Software Requirements:
The T55D is intended to run under the following operating systems:

• Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT 3.51 and NT 4.0
• IBM OS/2 2.1, 3.0 (Warp) and 4.0 (Merlin)
• DOS 7, Windows 3.1, and Windows for WorkGroups

Software that ships with the IBM P&D AGP adapter must be installed in the attaching system unit.

Limitations:
Supported display modes are a function of the attaching system unit software and driver support. The full range of display modes available with these monitors may not be available or supported with all combinations of system units, their operating systems, and application software.

The number of colors shown in any display mode is not defined solely by the monitor, but depends upon the capabilities of the video adapter in the system unit. The optional IBM P&D Digital Video Adapters, with 8MB of Video RAM enable up to 16.7 million colors at 1024 x 768 pixels.

The T55D provides FCC class B - residential installation - compliance in all display modes when connected to the IBM supplied AGP P&D Video Adapter card

Implementation of monitor power management follows the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) Display Power Management Signaling (DPMS) standard. This standard must also be implemented in the attaching system unit hardware and software for monitor power management to be effective. The system implementation must provide user-adjustable, power-down delay periods. The monitor power management function is invoked only after appropriate signals are received from an attached system unit or video adapter.

Implementation of monitor Plug and Play follows the VESA Display Data Channel (DDC) 2B standard. This standard must also be implemented in the attaching system unit hardware and software for monitor Plug and Play to be effective.

Certain functions require the system unit to be similarly configured, so all monitor functions may not be enabled when attached to a particular system unit.
