TP 390,172x - Error 623 after re-installing Windows NT power management driver
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
When attempting to re-install the power management driver for Windows NT, the error message An error occurred during the move data process: - 623 occurs and the installation aborts.
Configuration:
Any ThinkPad 390/i172x series with Windows NT 4.0, using the advanced power management driver version 1.00 for the Thinkpad 390/172x
Solution:
Go to Programs -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and select NANS (this is the power management driver program). Remove this program and reboot. You will now be able to reinstall the power management driver. If you are unable to remove NANS, you can also go to Programs -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Services. Highlight NANSPower and click Stop. This will stop the service and allow you to reinstall the program.
Additional information:
This problem can occur when attempting to reinstall the power management driver after converting the drive to NTFS or after applying a Service Pack. Applying a Service Pack will not disable power management, but if for some reason power management needs to be reinstalled, you may have to perform the procedure outlined above first. Converting to NTFS should not affect suspend and standby functions, however, note that hibernation will no longer function on a drive formatted to NTFS.
Note: Hibernation does not work with NTFS/HPFS partitions.
