IBM PC730/PC750 - OS/2 DOS session memory limit
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
Cannot librate additional memory within OS/2 full screen DOS session by setting Video_Mode_Restriction to CGA.
Problem Isolation Aids:
- Problem only affects PC 700 systems that have devices attached to the planar IDE controller.
- PC 700 systems configured for SCSI (containing no IDE devices) do not show the problem.
- Problem occurs for OS/2 2.11 (with or without Fix Pack #95) and OS/2 Warp 3.0.
Fix:
Some memory intensive DOS applications require in excess of 700KB memory. Setting Video_Mode_Restriction to CGA normally raises the executable program size from around 609KB to 707KB. However, there is a problem for PC 700 machines that make use of the planar IDE controller, whereby this does not have any effect - the size of the executable program remains unchanged.
The only solution for this at present is to specify PC 700 systems that have only SCSI devices attached.
