Aptiva - 2134/2176 How to play WAV, MIDI and CD audio (Mwave 33.6)
Applicable to: World-Wide
1. To Open "Audiostation": Click on "Start", go to "Programs", "Aptiva Entertainment" and click on "Audiostation".
Figure 1. Audiostation with All Modules Open
2. Figure 1 shows the Audiostation starting from the top to the bottom with the PowerBar, the Audio Mixer, the CD Player, the Wave Player, and the MIDI Player or modules. The PowerBar will always be at the top, but the other modules may be in different orders or not present.
3. If any of the modules are missing, click on the appropriate icon on the PowerBar to open the missing module. Starting from the IBM Trademark on the PowerBar and moving right across the PowerBar, the icons are for the Audiostation Help, the Audio Mixer, the CD Player Module, the
Wave Module, and the MIDI Module. If an error occurs, you will have to reload the Audiostation Application.
4. In order to do the testing, the Audiostation's audio mixer should be set to the appropriate settings. The settings are shown on the Audiostation displayed in Figure 1. See if the settings on the Audio Mixer are the same. If the display on the Audio Mixer says Reverb, Pitch, and Bass on the left side, the Audio Mixer is set to display the Effects display. Click on the ALL OFF button and then click on the Effects button to show the display above.
5. The Audio Mixer's settings should be:
a. Volumes all raised to the top except the Microphone or Mic. If they are not, then place the cursor on the slider, hold the left mouse button down and push the control up.
b. The Mic LED should not be on. The CD and Line input LEDs should be on.
c. The Play section with Input, MIDI, Wave, and Master should all have their LEDs on. If not, then click on the button to light the LED.
CD Player
To test the CD Player, an audio CD such as music CD is needed.
1. Insert the music CD into the CD-ROM drive.
2. The CD player should now look like the CD player above. The left side of the CD player will either display a title or "Untitled" and the right side of the CD player will say Trk 1. Look above at the Audiostation screenshot in Figure 1.
3. Click on the right sided tingle, located on the right side of the square button, to start playing the CD.
4. The music should be playing and the elapsed time counter on the CD player should be operational.
5. To stop the CD player, single left mouse click on the square next to the triangle.
Wave Player
To play a wave file through the Wave Player:
1. Click on the Playlist button in the lower left of the Wave Player module. This brings up the Wave Player Playlist. Refer to the Playlist in Figure 2. The first column is the name column and the third column is the Playlist column.
Figure 2 DAT Playlist
2. Click on the first file in the first column or name column. This highlights the file in the name column.
3. Click on the Add button at the top of DAT Playlist Window. This places the file in the Playlist column.
4. When the file is in the column, click on the "OK" button on the lower right bottom of the Playlist screen. This will return you to the Audiostation.
5. The file should be listed in the DAT player like the DAT player module shown in the Audiostation screenshot above. In the above example, the Chimes.wav file is loaded. If a file is not listed, there is no file in the Wave player. Repeat the process.
6. Click on the single right triangle button to play the wave file. The wave file should play and the LEDs should flash on the wave player.
7. To stop the Wave file, single left mouse click the square button on the DAT player module.
MIDI Player
To test the MIDI player:
1. Click on the folder icon on the lower right of the MIDI Player to bring up the MIDI Playlist. The MIDI Playlist has the same format as the DAT Playlist shown in Figure 2.
2. Click on the first file in the first column or name column. This will cause the file to be selected and highlighted like above.
3. Click on the Add button, which is the first button in the row on the MIDI Playlist window. The selected file should now show in the Playlist or third column.
4. When the file is in the Playlist column, click on the "OK" button on the lower right of the MIDI Playlist to close the Playlist and return to Audiostation.
5. The file should now show up in the MIDI Player. In the Audiostation example in Figure 1 shown above, the file loaded is the Canyon.mid. If the file is not named there, there is no file selected. Repeat the above procedures to select a file.
6. Click on the single right triangle to play the MIDI file. The LEDs should flash on the MIDI player and the MIDI file should be heard.
7. To stop the MIDI player, single left mouse click on the square.
To close the Audiostation program, click on the "X" in upper right of the Audiostation box. This will close the Audiostation program. If a Playlist message boxes appears about changes in the Playlist settings, single left mouse click on the "OK" button.
