Aptiva - Rapid Resume and Windows 95 autoplay

Question:
Rapid Resume will not shut down my Aptiva preloaded with Windows 95. Is there anything I can do to correct this?
Answer:
Rapid Resume uses a timer to shutdown the computer. It waits until there has been no activity on the hard drive, CD-ROM
drive or printer port for a number of minutes and then it can power down the system. If your machine will not power down, it
may be caused by the AUTOPLAY feature of Windows 95. Autoplay automatically starts an 'autoplay aware' program from
the CD when you put it in your drive. It also works for Audio CD's. A nice way to check if it is turned on is to insert a music
CD and wait and see if it plays automatically. If it does, then you need to turn off autoplay for Rapid Resume to work.
The following steps are used to disable the autoplay feature in Windows 95. This will prevent CD's from automatically playing
when you insert them into the drive and will allow Rapid Resume to shutdown the computer automatically after a few minutes.
1. Double Click on "MY COMPUTER".
2. Click on "VIEW" on the menu bar.
3. Click on "OPTIONS" at the end of the list.
4. Click on the "FILE TYPES" tab at the top.
5. Double-click on "AUDIOCD" in the window.
6. Click on "SET DEFAULT" to toggle Play in the window to Play, i.e., Play must not be bolded.
7. Exit out of these windows and autoplay will be disabled. Repeat the steps to bold the word Play if you wish to ever to re-enable autoplay.
Note: Printers can also cause Rapid Resume to not work. If you have a printer that repeatedly 'polls' the computer to see if it is
printing, then Rapid Resume will not function. The reason is that every time the printer asks the computer if it is printing, the
Rapid Resume timer gets reset. You can consult your printer documentation to see if this 'polling' feature can or cannot be
disabled on the printer.
