PS/1 - Can I add a serial port to the PS/1?

Yes. You can add a serial port to your IBM PS/1 Computer. You have two alternatives depending on your PS/1 model type.
If you have a 286 PS/1 or a PS/1 386SX Model C42, C92, G42, or S92, then you can purchase the Adapter Card Unit which attaches to the top of the system unit. The Adapter Card Unit (ACU) will provide you with three slots for your PS/1. Instructions for adding the ACU are located in the Adding Options manual. Or, you may replace your internal modem with the PS/1 Serial Adapter Card. (Remember, this option is for the PS/1 2011, all Models, and the PS/1 2121 Models C42, G42, C92, and S92.)
For all other models of the PS/1 computer, you can install an Industry Standard serial card into one of the free AT adapter slots. To install an adapter card into one of these slots, please see your Adding Options manual included with your system start-up kit.
The PS/1 Models 2123, 2133, 2155, and 2168 and the PS/Note come standard with one serial port. You can add an additional serial port to any of the available slots.
NOTE: The Industry Standard serial adapter card must be 11" or smaller.
When you purchase a serial card for your PS/1, please read the installation instructions included with the card. They often explain the process of setting jumpers and switches for proper performance.
