CrossBrand - How to clean boot without CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT

This document contains information on how to boot ThinkPad and bypass the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT.

DOS/Windows3.1x:
NOTE: Must be DOS 5.0 and higher
- Turn the Thinkpad on and watch carefully
- After the Memory Count (top left hand corner) you will see Starting PC DOS or Starting MS DOS
- To bypass the bootup press the F5 key now
- You should get directly to a C:\ prompt

NOTE: If you have a MENU type Config you may have to press Enter after the F5 to get to the C:\ prompt

Windows95:
- Turn on the Thinkpad and watch carefully
- After the Memory Count (top left hand corner) you will see Starting Windows95
- To bypass the bootup press the F8 key now
- You will get a menu
- To get directly to the C:\ prompt choose -Safe Mode Command Prompt Only. Note: This choice will bypass the config.sys and autoexec.bat

OS/2 Warp:
- Turn on the Thinkpad and watch carefully.
- After the Memory Count (top left hand corner) you will see OS/2.
- Press Alt+F1 and you will get a menu "Recovery Choices".
- Pick the choice for Command Prompt "C" or "F2" depending on OS/2 version.
