IBM Monitor self tests

Applicable to: World-Wide

Service Information:
6312, 6314, 6317, 6318 AND 6319 monitor self tests.

The full screen raster self-test on page 7 of the PS/ValuePoint hardware maintenance service and reference manual (Sept 1992) is valid for the 6312 monitor only. It is not valid for the 6314 and 6319 Monitors. Do the following to run the monitor self-test on 6314 and 6319:

1. Power-off the system unit and monitor
2. Disconnect the monitor signal cable
3. Power-on the monitor
4. The monitor should be blank (black) and the light emitting diodes on the digital control box should flash in sequence from left to right, looping continuously.

If the self test fails, replace the monitor
If the self test passes, continue problem search.

Monitor Determination:
* the 6318 has a white raster when disconnected from the PS/2
* the 6317 does not have a white raster when disconnected from the PS/2. The only indication that the 6317 is working when disconnected from a PS/2 is that the green power LED is on.

Note:
If the green power on light is not illuminated, check the power cord and input voltage before replacing monitors. The ValuePoint service documentation will be corrected in the next phase.
