Aptiva - 8-Bit error at Windows startup

Applicable to: World-Wide

The Aptiva Guide needs to be run in 256 color mode. Please follow the following steps to set the system to the correct video mode. You have two options; Disable Aptiva Guide from starting upon entering Windows, or change the color settings back to 256.

In Windows 95:
1.) Click with the Right Mouse Button on an open spot of the "Desktop"
2.) Choose Properties. Click on the "Settings tab".
3.) Under "color palette" click on the triangle pointing down and choose 256 Color.
4.) Click on Apply at the bottom of the screen and choose "Yes" when asked to restart Windows 95.

In Windows 3.11-
1.) Click on Aptivaware
2.) Click on Custom Tools
3.) Click on Display Select
4.) Change color palette to 256.

To disable the automatic loading of the guide:
1.) Open a DOS Prompt
2.) Type, 'EDIT WIN.INI'
3.) From the "Run=" line, remove the reference to the Aptiva Guide. You will not be able to run the guide at more colors than 256, but you CAN use the system with more pixel depth without any
errors.
