TP General - How to Install the Keyboard Patch Cable (P/N 83H6472)

Applicable to: World-Wide

This document contains information on how to attach the keyboard patch cable (p/n 83H6472) to your ThinkPad 365X/XD, 755 or 760C/CD/L/LD, 765L Series.

When you use an external TrackPoint keyboard such as; IBM 101 Key TrackPoint II Keyboard or IBM ThinkPad Space Saver Keyboard, while the ThinkPad computer's internal TrackPoint III is enabled, either or both of the following symptoms may occur intermittently:
- The external keyboard may reset while your type.
- An 8603 or 8611 POST error occurs at power-on.

If you encounter either of these symptoms, attach the TrackPoint keyboard adapter cable (p/n 83H6472).

*ThinkPad 365X/XD, 760C/CD/L/LD, and 765L:
1. Attach one end of the adapter cable to the external keyboard's cable connector with the mouse symbol.
2. Attach the other end of the adapter cable to the mouse connector on the docking station, port replicator, or keyboard/mouse connector.

*ThinkPad 755 (all):
1. Attach one end of the adapter cable to the external keyboard's cable connector with the keyboard symbol.
2. Attach the other end of the adapter cable to the keyboard connector on the docking station, port replicator, or keyboard/mouse connector.
3. Grab the plastic tab and pull forward on it.
4. Then lift upward to lift battery out of system.
