If you are very familiar with SCSI, hardware, and the installation process, continue with 3.0 Quick installation instructions for experienced users. If not, continue with 4.0 Detailed installation instructions.

3.0 Quick installation instructions for experienced users
1. Set up a raid array of the desired level and create a single logical drive consisting of the entire freespace. Initialize and Synchronize.

2. Boot to the SCO OpenServer BOOT diskette and follow normal procedures.

4.0 Detailed installation instructions
Follow the instructions below in sequence

4.1 Setting up the hardware
Note: Follow the on screen directions on the following disk operations:

1. Flash the RAID adapter to the appropriate level (listed in section 1.0).

4.3 Setting up the array
1. Use the configuration diskette for your specific controller (PCI Fast/Wide or ServeRaid).

2. Boot to the RAID configuration utility disk.

3. If using the PCI Fast/Wide diskette, select #2, Start RAID Configuration Program.

4. Select Create/Delete Array.

5. If an array is currently defined (any ONL drives to the right):
a. Select Delete Disk Array
b. Follow the instructions at the bottom of the screen to delete it.

6. Select Create Disk Array. Make all drives you desire in the array ONL with the exception of Hot Spares.

7. Select Define Logical Drive.

b. Accept freespace.

8 Repeat the above step, with the exception of accepting the freespace.
Note: The array A should now have a logical drive (A0) consisting of the entire freespace.

9. Press Esc to return to the previous menu.

10. Select Initialize/Synchronize array.

11. Select Initialize Disk Array.

4.4 Installing the NOS
1. Place the SCO OpenServer Boot Disk in drive A and power on the server.

2. At the Boot: prompt, type the following:
for OS 5.00 - 5.0.2
restart ahslink=mdac (if using pci f/w raid adapter)
restart ahslink=ipsraid (if using serveraid adapter)

for OS 5.0.4 - 5.0.5
<enter> (no bootstring necessary if using pci f/w raid adapter)
restart link=ipsraid (if using serveraid adapter)

Note: if using the ServeRaid as your boot controller and the CD-ROM is NOT attached to the ServeRaid, you must supply the additional bootstring parameter:

Srom=<adapter driver>(bus#, adapter#, scsi-ID#, LUN#) e.g. Srom=alad(0,0,6,0)

Insert either the mdac or ipsraid when prompted. If prompted, type a to use the default character major 6.

3. At the prompt, Press Enter to begin installation press Enter to continue.
