TP 390,1720 - Power button does not appear to work

SYMPTOM:
The power button does not appear to work when trying to power down the computer.

CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad 390 or i Series 1720.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
After pressing the power button, the machine fails to power down.

SOLUTION:
To power off the computer you must hold the power switch in for more than 4 seconds. The computer will power off after a brief delay after the power switch is pressed.
