If you are very familiar with SCSI, hardware, and the installation process, continue with 3.0 Quick installation instructions for experienced users. If not, continue with 4.0 Detailed installation instructions.

3.0 Quick installation instructions for experienced users
1. Create an array of the desired raid level using the RAID Option Diskette (listed in section 1.0). The boot device (RAID logical drive) for this controller type (IBM PCI F/W RAID Adapter, or IBM F/W Micro Channel Streaming RAID Adapter) must be 500MB or less. Create an A0 RAID logical drive and another (A1) for the rest of the freespace.

2. Make a backup of your RAID configuration with the RAID Option disk.

3. Initialize and Synchronize both drives before beginning the NetWare install.

4. Install PC DOS 7 on the A0 RAID logical drive. Run UINSTALL from the DOS directory of the RAID option disk to install CD ROM support.

5. Install NetWare 3.12 normally, with the exception of only using the IBMRAID.DSK from the PCINETW.ZIP download for the disk driver (see section 1.0).

Note: All current patch levels listed at http://support.novell.com must be applied for proper operation of NetWare 3.12.

4.0. Detailed installation instructions
Follow the instructions below in the order presented.

4.1 Setting up the BIOS
Note: Follow the on screen directions on the following disk operations:

1. Boot to the BIOS upgrade diskette (listed in section 2.0) and flash the system to revision 28A.

2. Boot to the RAID BIOS/Firmware upgrade diskette (listed in section 2.0) and flash the controller.

3. Press F1 to Enter CMOS, then load defaults from the menu. Save and exit.

4.2 Running the Micro Channel Reference Disk
Note: If no Micro Channel cards are installed, there is no need to run the Reference Disk. However if a Micro Channel card is added, a 00165 configuration error will occur on boot and the system will go into the CMOS configuration menu:

1. CMOS will redisplay the 00165 error. Select to continue. Another error occurs, continue again. You are now at the main CMOS menu. Select Micro Channel Configuration. CMOS now prompts for the Reference Disk; place it in the floppy drive. The system will now reboot to the Reference Disk.

2. Error 00165 reoccurs. Select Y to run automatic configuration when prompted. If the Reference Disk does not have an Adapter Description File (ADF) for your hardware, it will prompt for the option disk. When auto configuration is complete, the Reference disk menu can be used to inspect the settings. Verify your Network Interface Cards (NIC) are set to the proper speed if they are adjustable in the Reference Disk.

4.3. Setting up the array
IBM PCI F/W RAID or IBM Micro Channel F/W Streaming RAID controller only:

1. Ignore any errors in the configuration on the initial boot of the controller out of the box.

2. Boot to the RAID configuration utility disk.

3. Select #2, Start RAID Configuration Program.

4. Select #3, Create Delete Array.

5. If an array is currently defined (any ONL drives to the right):
a. Select #3, Delete Disk Array
b. Follow the instructions at the bottom of the screen to delete it.

6. Select #4, Create Disk Array:
a. Make all drives you desire in the array ONL with the exception of Hot Spares.

7. Select #5, Define Logical Drive:
a. Select the RAID level desired.
b. DO NOT ACCEPT FREESPACE. Change the size to 500, following the directions at the bottom of the screen.

8. Repeat the above step, with the exception of accepting the freespace.

Note: The array A should now have a logical drive (A0) of 500MB and logical drive (A1) with the remainder.

9. Press Esc to return to the previous menu.

10. Select #4, Initialize/Synchronize array:

11. Select #2, Initialize Disk Array:
a. Highlight both A0 and A1 logical drives with the spacebar.
b. Start Initialization. Allow to complete.

12. Select #3, Synchronize Disk Array:
a. Highlight both A0 and A1 logical drives with the spacebar.
b. Start Synchronization. Allow to complete.

13. You are now ready for NOS installation.

Note: A Raid Configuration Backup Diskette is recommended when array configuration is complete. Refer to the RAID Option Diskette menu to create one.

Warning: The IBM PCI F/W controller does not autosynchronize. Perform manual synchronization from the RAID Option Diskette on a weekly basis.

4.4 Installing the NOS
1. Boot your PC DOS 7 installation disk. Select Y when asked if you wish to install.

2. When PC DOS asks you to partition the drive, select Allocate some free hard disk space for PC DOS.

3. FDISK now starts. Select #1, Create DOS partition or Logical DOS Drive (Current fixed disk drive should be defaulted to 1). Select #1, Create Primary DOS Partition. When asked 'Do you with to use the maximum available size...' Enter Y. Press Esc to return to the main FDISK screen.

4. Select #5, Change Current Fixed Disk. Enter 2 for the drive number. Select #1, Create DOS partition.... Select #1, Create Primary DOS Partition. Enter N to the next question. Enter 5 for the size and press Enter. Press Esc twice to exit FDISK. The system now reboots (leave the install disk in the diskette drive).
