IBM ValuePoint - System hang in Windows with 8MB parity memory SIMM

Applicable to: World-Wide

Symptom:
PS/ValuePoint Performance Series system (6472, 6482, 6484, 6492 & 6494) with FRU P/N92G7521 8Mb parity memory SIMM(s) installed may exhibit intermittent system hang conditions or memory related errors running Microsoft Windows. Trap 000E and Trap 0002 errors may intermittently occur while running OS/2.

Problem Isolation Aids:
Other operating systems may display memory related errors with the configuration of memory, such as parity, panic or NMI errors. Remove the 8Mb SIMM(s) and retest the system. If the errors do NOT reoccur, this tip applies. If the errors continue with the 8Mb SIMM removed, this tip does not apply.

Fix:
If the errors do NOT occur with the 8Mb parity SIMM removed, replace the SIMM FRU P/N92G7521.
If the failure persists, continue normal problem determination to isolate the failing FRU or application.
