Aptiva - Home Director questions and problems
Applicable to: Canada, United States
Here are some typical questions or problems people having with Home Director devices.
1. House Code -vs. Unit Code: Customer's will sometimes be confused by the logic in using the SAME House Code setting for all devices in the HOME and a different Unit Code for each. They will at times set each unit differently, and then have problems setting up, or getting it to work at all.
2. Confusion regarding HOW modules actually work:
- Simple electronic relay. (No Logic)
- Lamp or appliance power switch must be turned on at all times for module to control device.
- If module is OFF, lamp or appliance won't work using it's own power switch.
- If lamp or appliance is turned off, module will do nothing.
3. Interference from neighbors with similar devices. Home Director technology uses a low power signal transmitted through home wiring. This signal could roll over to other homes serviced by same transformer main electrical service from the road (i.e., Apartments, neighbors on your street, etc...). Home Director has a function built in, however, that will assist your ability to determine if there are additional signals present, and where they may be coming from.
4. Confusion with different module types, and SPECIFIC uses for. The wide variety of modules available make for a need for information regarding the specific use for each type. Also, there are many different types of control devices available (keychain remote, light sensors, heat sensors, alarm clocks, etc...) that will make it somewhat confusing.
