TP 600 - Unique Considerations

Applicable to: World-Wide

ThinkPad 600 Unique Considerations
o Screen expansion (Fn+F8) does not cover the full display screen leaving a small black border around the edge of the display.

o Playing Indeo AVI files with ActiveMovie causes an exception error on a system where IE4 was installed on Windows NT 4.0.
MediaPlayer does not have a problem playing these files.

o If the system is suspended/hibernated while playing Active Movie II on Windows 95, the subsequent resume operation may cause the system to hang-up. It is recommended to exit Active Movie II before entering the suspend/hibernation mode.

o The magnifying glass function should be used in 16 or 24 bit color modes. It is recommended to use the display color mode in something other than 256 colors.

o Intel Video Phone may be disconnected during long calls.
To reduce the possibility of disconnection, do the following.
* Use the system in AC mode
* Set the power management setting in "high performance" mode. If possible, set "screen off timer" and "suspend timer" to "0" and CPU to "max" in "custom" mode.
* Don't install LAN Desk Client Manager (LDCM)
* Don't invoke the ThinkPad Configuration Utility Fuel Gauge program, and/or Power Management applet during a video call
* Close other applications before a video call, and don't open other applications during the video call

o LDCM does not return NIC information correctly for IBM EtherJet PC card while in Windows 95. Read the README file for the PC Card to get the fixed code.

o LDCM in Windows NT 4.0 may not show any information on its application window if the log-on operation is completed before loading all system modules. Make sure that all system modules are loaded before log-on operation is completed.

o Ring Indicator (RI) resume is not supported for PC Card modems in the SelectaBase PC Card Enabler.

o When the ThinkPad modem is disabled using Device Manager in Windows 95, a reboot is required even though the dialog window does not request it.

o In Windows NT, when playing a movie in screen expanded mode, the picture may be noisy. You can remove the noise by disabling the expanded mode using the FN and F8 key.

o When playing a movie using MediaPlayer in 256 color mode in Windows 95, pausing the movie may cause the color of the movie to not be correct. You can recover it by replaying the movie.

o The Track point is not disabled dynamically when the system is docked or when a mouse is attached to the dock. The Track point is only disabled automatically when the mouse is connected to the mouse port at boot time.

o While the HDD can be upgraded by the customer, it is not designed to be removed and reinserted on a regular basis. Repeated and frequent removal, for purposes other than to upgrade for greater capacity, may cause damage to the system.

o The system must be either in hibernated or " power-off" when changing the battery.

o 56Kbps modem support is only available on Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0.

o SelectaDock I and II do not support CardBus card when docked to ThinkPad 600.

o UltraslimBay(R) options for the ThinkPad 600 do not fit in SelectaDock I/II/III.
