Network Station - Using Windows NT security on NFS server configuration
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
On the Network Station Boot server running Windows NT 4.0, or Windows NT Terminal Server Edition with NSM code 3.0, 3.01 or 3.02 , the following occurs:
Scenario 1:
When you boot the Network Station, it shows the error message, "NSK5676 error failed to mount flash file system." The Network Station system never loads the kernel.
Scenario 2:
The Network Station loads the kernel fine, and the user receives a server login screen. When signed on to the Network Station, it does not show the following menu items on the taskbar: 5250, 3270, NC Navigator . The only menu items shown on the taskbar are: Log out, Hide, Move to bottom and Lock screen .
Solution:
Check the following on the NT server:
Make sure the user NSMNFS_User exists, and is a member of the NSMUser group. |
Go to NFS server configuration and make sure NSMNFS_User has User ID -2 . If NSMNFS_User does not exist, or if it does not have a User id of -2 , NSM was not installed properly. Re-install NSM, and make sure NSMNFS_User is created as a default with User id of -2 . Unchecking "Use windows NT security" box under NFS server configuration might allow bypassing this problem, but it creates some security exposure. |
