TP General - Phone Dialer started when in stand alone or network mode Windows 95
Applicable to: World-Wide
SYMPTOM:
Phone Dialer (TCP Dial-IBM) is invoked when Lotus Notes or Netscape is started for stand-alone or network-attached use (via docking station or PCMCIA network card).
Unable to use these programs unless dialer connects; or, it frequently asks to be connected, thus interrupting machine use.
CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad running Windows 95 attempting to connect to the internet via a LAN connection instead of a modem connection.
SOLUTION:
Windows 95 has an AutoDial feature which invokes a dialer program whenever Windows thinks it needs to attach to the Internet.
To disable this feature:
1) Open the Windows Control Panel
2) Open the Internet icon
3) Deselect the Use AutoDial option box
4) Push the Apply button, at the bottom of the window
5) Push the OK button.
Once you have disabled the AutoDial feature, you can use Lotus Notes and Netscape without having to dial into a network.
