TP 770 - How to activate Cardbus Slots on the PC Card Enabler

Applicable to: World-Wide

The purpose of this document is to provide basic instructions on how to activate the 2 PC Cardbus Slots on the PC Card Enabler when used with theThinkpad 770 for a total of 4 PC Cardbus slots.

To activate the PC Card Enabler for Thinkpad 770 the following items are required:

IBM ThinkPad 770
770 SelectaBase
SelectaBase PC Card Enabler

Note: (To gain access to Docking Station/Port Replicator options double-click on the icon:)

The instructions listed below are not in the manual that comes with the PC Card Enabler.

1. Connect the PC Card Enabler to the Select-A-Dock. If you are not using a Select-A-Dock, connect the PC Card Enabler to the 770 SelectaBase. Put the 770 onto the base and turn on your PC. The PC will detect the new hardware and set up the computer into a "dock" status.

2. The screen resolution will change. To correct the screen resolution go to the Control Panel and double click on Display. Go to the Settings tab and reset the color pallet to High Color 16 bit and move the arrow to "More" on the Desktop area. Click on apply then restart the system.

3. Once your system has successfully restarted, you will have to enable the PC slots on your PC. You will now have 4 slots, 2 from the enabler and 2 from your Thinkpad.

4. To enable the slots go to the Control Panel and select System. Click on the Device Manager tab. Scroll down until you see PCMCIA Socket. Expand the group and you should see 4 cards that read Texas Instruments PCI-1250 CardBus Controller. Two of them will have a Red X on them.

5. To enable the cards select an "X" on the PC card and select the Properties button. Uncheck the "Disable in this hardware profile" check box and hit "OK". It will then tell you to restart. You can select "NO" and then select the second PC card and enable it by going to Properties and unchecking "disable" in this hardware profile. Then restart the system. This should enable your PC card and you should hear the "Beep" that your ThinkPad makes when it recognizes the card.
