TP General - How to enable/disable ESS audio on a ThinkPad

This document contains instructions on how to enable/disable ESS Audio on a ThinkPad.
Using ThinkPad Features:
1. Start ThinkPad Features.
- Windows 95 - Click on Start, then Programs, then ThinkPad, and then ThinkPad features.
- OS/2 & Windows 3.1x - Double click on ThinkPad and then ThinkPad Features.
- Click on the Audio icon - it looks like a speaker on the left column.
- Select Enable or Disable and then Click on the OK button.
- Exit ThinkPad Features via the green door icon in the upper right corner to save changes.
- Shutdown and reboot the ThinkPad.
Using PS/2 Commands:
1. Open a DOS Window or Command Prompt.
- Windows 95 - Click on Start, then Programs, and then MS-DOS Prompt.
- OS/2 - Double click on OS/2 System, and Command Prompts, and then OS/2 Window.
- Windows 3.1x - Exit windows.
2. Type PS2 AUDIO E to enable the audio or PS2 AUDIO D to disable and press the Enter key.
3. Shutdown and reboot the ThinkPad.
4. If you receive a bad command message then type CD C:\THINKPAD and retry the command. If you still get the error then ThinkPad utilities needs to be installed.
Note: The ThinkPad 701 does not have PS/2 commands. You need to go into the Configuration Utility via Fn+F1. Press the Page Down key until you see the Audio port settings.
Note: Same for the ThinkPad 365CD/ED, they do not have PS/2 commands. You need to use the Configuration Utility via Ctrl+Alt+F11 at a full DOS screen. The Audio setting is located in the bottom left corner. Use the Up and Down Arrow keys to navigate and the + and - keys to toggle settings.
