Abstract: ECA025: Netfinity 5000 - Hot swap backplane replacement

Purpose:
This ECA provides for the replacement of hot swap backplanes in a limited number of Netfinity 5000 systems.

This ECA is MANDATORY.

To order this ECA, contact your IBM Branch Office, Central Response Office or Designated Country ECA Coordinator.

Physical check:
The system is a Netfinity 5000 server, Type 8659, Model: 1SY, 12Y, 2SY, 22Y, 3RY, 31Y, 4RY or 41Y.

The system's Hot Swap Backplane is in one of the following sets:

SET 1:
RACK Models - FRU p/n20L1434
TOWER Models - FRU p/n20L1435

----------- OR -----------

SET 2:
RACK Models - FRU p/n61H3248
TOWER Models - FRU p/n61H3249
AND
The system's serial number begins with 55-xxxxx.
AND
The backplane has NO Mylar Tape located on the drive side of the card between the mounting holes next to the LED's for J9 & J10.

Detail:
The FRU number is located on the bottom of the daughterboard that attaches to the hot-swap backplane.

Note: When viewing the FRU number on the Hot Swap Backplane Assembly, you may not see the letters "FRU".

Replace the Hot Swap Backplane Assembly as follows:

• Rack: replace FRU p/n20L1434 with FRU supplied in FBM p/n61H3254.
• Tower: replace FRU p/n20L1435 with FRU supplied in FBM p/n61H3255.

Refer to the HMM section "Hot Swap Backplane Assembly Removal" for instructions on removing the backplane assembly.

The following must be replaced:

• FRU p/n20L1434 (rack model)
• FRU p/n20L1435 (tower model)

The following may be replaced if both conditions apply:

• FRU p/n61H3248
• FRU p/n61H3249

Condition 1 = NO Mylar Tape located on the drive side of the card between the mounting holes next to the LED's for J9 & J10.

Condition 2 = Serial Number starts with "55".

Notes:
This ECA is "MANDATORY".

This ECA is scheduled to be withdrawn June 30, 2005.

Parts in "Features" Section, under "B/M to be Installed" column, MAY BE Ordered Code "B" or "X".

The removed parts are the property of IBM and should be returned as per your country guidelines and local
branch office procedures.

IBM PSS/TSS CE's should record all time and parts to Service Code 33, ECA025, Other Office 990.
Travel Time = 0.8Hrs.
