Aptiva - Error configuring Midi Magic device in Caesar II, no sound

Applicable to: World-Wide

When trying to select and configure midi magic device, you may get an error stating "error midi sound hardware not found, check driver type and configuration". Or, there is no sound when trying to play Caesar II. This could be caused by Mwave setup for DOS or Caesar II sound setup.

1) To check DOS setup, select "start, shutdown, restart the computer in ms-dos mode and yes".
2) At the "c:\windows" prompt, type "fastcfg" and ENTER.
3) Select "game," then select "ok" and "yes" to confirm settings for DOS mode.
4) Type "cd\" ENTER, then "cd\sierra\caesar2" ENTER, then "setsound" ENTER.
5) Check contents of "current Sound Configuration" window; recommended:
MIDI Music: Creative Labs Sound Blaster or 100% Compatible
Digital Audio: Creative Labs Sound Blaster or 100% Compatible
or
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Pro or 100% Compatible
6.) If set as above, select "done," sound is setup correctly. If not, continue.
7.) Choose "select and configure MIDI music driver," select "Creative Labs Sound Blaster or 100% Compatible." Select "attempt to configure sound driver automatically" and "ok" if message "device detected successfully."
8.) Repeat step 7 for "digital audio driver" except select "Creative Labs Sound Blaster Pro or 100% Compatible." Select "done" to complete setup.
