Aptiva - How to restore MBR and boot files in OS/2

Applicable to: World-Wide

You will need the set of three Recovery diskettes that should be made from a working system. If you do not have the three
Recovery diskettes, they may be obtained any of the following ways:

1. From OS/2 desktop, double-click on "Aptivaware", "Custom Tools", and click on "Create Recovery Diskettes". Insert Multimedia Exploration CD disk and follow instructions from there.

2. Boot with MPEG diskette and select option to create Recovery diskettes. Insert Multimedia Exploration CD disk and follow instructions from there.

3. Call Aptiva Help Center, (800) 772-2227, and purchase the set.

To Restore Master Boot Record And Boot Files In OS/2:
1. Boot with Recovery diskette #1.

2. When prompted, insert Recovery diskette #2 and press "Enter" key.

3. At menu, select option 6, "Go to OS/2 Warp Command Prompt", and press "Enter" key.

4. Insert Recovery diskette #3.

5. To restore MBR: At [A:\] prompt, type "fdisk/newmbr" and press "Enter" key.

6. When process has completed, you will see a message, "The new MBR has successfully been written."

7. To restore boot files in OS/2: Reinsert Recovery diskette #2. At [A:\] prompt, type "sysinstx c:" and press "Enter" key.

8. When the process has completed, you will see a message, "The type of file system for the disk is FAT. The system files have been transferred".

9. Type "exit" and press "Enter" key to return to the Aptiva Recovery Menu or Ctrl, Alt, Del to restart system.
