SVGA programs under Windows
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
DOS programs that use SVGA modes will load and run correctly in a DOS fullscreen session under Windows, but if you switch to Windows or another program then back to the SVGA program the display is corrupt
Problem Isolation Guidance:
None.
Fix:
There is none - this is a limitation of Windows. The Microsoft specification only requires the display driver to save and restore VGA or lower modes of DOS sessions. Some display drivers maypreserve SVGA screens and palettes during a session-switch but this is entirely at the discretion of the display-driver provider.
If this proves to be a major problem then OS/2 should be considered instead - this fully supports SVGA DOS sessions.
