Aptiva - Illegal Operation when entering Product ID in Windows 98

Symptom:
At the initial setup, when entering the Product Key number for Windows 98, the operating system crashes with an Illegal Operation error. Clicking on Details will report:
MSGSRV32 caused a General Protection Fault in module PIDGEN.DLL at 0001:00005f2c
Cause:
Date of the computer is set ahead by several years.
Solution:
1. Close the Illegal Operation box
2. Press Control + Alt + Del
3. Select Shutdown
4. Press F1 at the BIOS Startup logo to enter Configuration Utility
5. Scroll down to Date and Time
6. Reset the year to the current using the arrow keys.
7. Save and Exit the Configuration Utility
8. Entering the key number should not report error messages anymore.
