TP 760EL - System Error: Unknown Title Sys3175
Applicable to: World-Wide
SYMPTOM:
After installing the latest video drivers (VFTPKOS2.EXE), customer booted up and received
"System Error: Unknown Title" 3175. Also observed a transient problem with the Properties boxes being displayed in black.
SOLUTION:
(Customer had only welcome in the Startup folder.)
1) Made the following changes in CONFIG.SYS:
set autostart=tasklist, folders
set restartobjects=none
2) Rebooted
3) Changed set restartobjects to =startupfoldersonly
4) Rebooted
5) Added back warpcenter, then programs, then connections, rebooting after each addition.
On each iteration, welcome was tested from a command prompt and it ran.
6) Put welcome back into the Startup folder and cold booted - no further problems.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Problem observed on 760EL machine with the 9385 Trident Cyber chipset. No additional hardware installed.
16MB additional IBM memory. BIOS version 1.06. Clean install of OS/2 Warp version 4 on formatted drive. Installed at VGA resolution.
It appears that a thread or program was not terminating properly and was causing a session error. Once the thread was stopped, it did not restart and the CONFIG.SYS was returned to the original state.
