Follow the NOS instructions provided in this document sequentially unless you are instructed differently. Windows and messages might differ from those in this document.

If you are very familiar with SCSI, hardware, and the installation process, continue with '3.0 Quick Installation Instructions for Experienced Users'. If not, continue with '4.0 Detailed Installation Instructions'.


3.0) Quick instructions
1) Ensure the current machine BIOS and RAID controller BIOS is flashed on the server. (Disks listed in section 2.)

2) Boot to the EISA config and set the machine's proper memory size and ensure that the SVGA ISA adapter has been locked out in EISA config with the 'Generic SVGA ISA Video Adapter' description supplied on the disk.

Note: Refer to section 4.3. Disk filename is listed in Section 1 above.

2) Boot to the RAID configuration utility disk and set up an array of the desired RAID level.

3) Set up 2 RAID logical drives in the array. The (A0) boot logical drive should be 500 Meg or Less. Another logical drive for data (A1) should be the rest of the array space.

4) Modify the OS2 Diskette #1 with the IBMRAID.ADD driver and remove DAC960.ADD from the CONFIG.SYS. If a trap occurs at any time during the install, the install has put back the DAC960 driver. Boot to the install diskettes, drop to a command prompt, and remove all instances before continuing.

4.0) Detailed instructions
Please follow each section carefully and in order:

4.1) Setting up Hardware
Note: Follow the on screen directions on the following disk operations:

1) Boot to the BIOS upgrade diskette (listed in section 2) and flash the system to revision '16T3B'.
2) Boot to the RAID BIOS/Firmware upgrade diskette (listed in section 2) and flash the controller.


4.2) Running EISA config
1) Boot up to the EISA config disk. (Disk listed in section 2)
2) Type 'Y' at 'Configure System now?'.
3) Go to step 3, 'View or Edit Details'.
4) Select 'Total System Memory'.
5) Press Enter.
6) Select the correct memory size and press F10.
7) Press F10 again.
8) Go to Step 2, 'Add and Remove Boards'.
9) Press 'insert'.
10) Press Enter.
11) Select 'ISA SVGA Video Card' and press Enter.
12) Press Enter again.
13) Select 'Slot 1' and press Enter.
14) Select Step 5, 'Save and Exit'.


4.3) Setting up the array
PCI F/W RAID Controller Hardware setup instructions:

Detailed Instructions:

1) Ignore any errors in the configuration on the initial boot of the controller out of the box.

2) Boot to the RAID configuration utility disk.

3) Select #2, 'Start RAID Configuration Program'.

4) Select #3, 'Create Delete Array'.

5) If an array is currently defined (any ONL drives to the right):

A) Select #3, 'Delete Disk Array'
B) Follow the instructions at the bottom of the screen to delete it.

6) Select #4, 'Create Disk Array':

A) Make all drives you desire in the array 'ONL' with the exception of Hot Spares.

7) Select #5, 'Define Logical Drive':

A) Select the RAID level desired.
B) DO NOT ACCEPT FREESPACE. Change the size to 500, following the directions at the bottom of the screen.

8) Repeat the above step, with the exception of accepting the freespace.

Note: The array 'A' should now have a logical drive (A0) of 500 Meg and logical drive (A1) with the remainder.

9) Press ESC to return to the previous menu.

10) Select #4, 'Initialize/Synchronize array':

11) Select #2, 'Initialize Disk Array':

A) Highlight both A0 and A1 logical drives with the spacebar.
B) Start Initialization. Allow to complete.

12) Select #3, 'Synchronize Disk Array':

A) Highlight both A0 and A1 logical drives with the spacebar.
B) Start Synchronization. Allow to complete.

13) You are now ready for NOS installation.

4.4) Installing the NOS
1) Modify OS2 Installation Disk 1 with the proper SCSI drivers:

A) Boot the RAID option disk and select option 1 ('Driver Install').
B) Select to 'Make modifications to backup OS/2 Warp Diskette' and press Enter.
C) Press Enter
D) Insert Warp Server Diskette 1 when prompted and press Enter.
E) Remove disk when copying is complete.

Note: Depending on the OS2 revision, the statement 'SET COPYFROMFLOPPY=1' may need to be added to CONFIG.SYS.

2) Boot off the OS/2 Warp Server Installation Diskette.

3) When prompted, insert OS/2 Warp Server Diskette #1. Ignore any error messages which may appear due to missing files and allow the diskette to load completely.

4) Follow the on screen instructions until the installation choices screen appears. Select Advanced Installation from the list.

5) Select option 2, 'specify a different drive or partition.'

6) When FDISK appears, Disk 1 should be highlighted. Press Enter within the freespace. Select 'create partition' from the partition menu. The default partition size should be 500 megabytes, accept the default size. Define the partition as 'primary partition.'

7) Press the Tab key, move the cursor to 'Disk 2' and press Tab again. Press Enter within the freespace. Select 'create partition' from the partition menu. Press Enter to accept the default size. Define the partition as 'extended logical drive.'

8) Press Tab, and highlight 'Disk 1.' Press Tab again, then press Enter. Select 'set installable' from the partition menu. Type the desired name for the new partition (example: 'WarpServ'). Press F3 to exit, then F3 to save and exit. Follow the onscreen instructions to reboot the server.

9) You will now repeat steps 2-4. After choosing 'advanced installation' choose 'accept the drive.'

10) Select option 1, 'high performance file system.' Allow the installation partition to be formatted.

11) The system files will be loaded onto the hard disk.

12) When the transfer completes, a screen appears asking you to remove the diskette. DO NOT REMOVE IT. Instead, press F3 and an OS/2 Command Prompt should appear. Insert the RAID option diskette and type A:\FIXWARP and press Enter. Reboot the system (Ctl-Alt-Del).

13) When the 'system configuration' window appears, click on 'SCSI adapter support' and unselect 'Mylex DAC960 RAID Adapter.' Make sure that 'IBM SCSI II RAID Adapter' is selected. Click OK to return to 'system configuration.'

14) Accept all other defaults and click OK.

15) Follow on screen instructions for installation until file copy begins. After the file copy the system automatically reboots.

16) The server may trap during the boot. If this occurs, boot from the installation diskettes and select F3 for a command prompt when offered (instead of Continue Installation). When the command prompt appears, insert the RAID option diskette once more and type A:\FIXWARP and Enter. Remove the diskette and reboot to continue the installation process.

17) The Warp Server installation will continue to copy files, and will again reboot the system automatically.

Appendix A:

Installing OS2 Fixpack 32
NOTE: If your ServerGuide does not have a 'Fixpack' CD or you have no ServerGuide, call 1-800-426-7282 for an upgrade (proof of IBM server purchase required). Otherwise, refer to IBM PSP's web site at http://ps.software.ibm.com to download the latest fixpacks (follow PSP's instructions for installing these packages).

1) Insert the ServerGuide CD labelled 'Fixpack' in the CD ROM. Open an OS2 command prompt and change into the '\OS2' directory. Run 'fixpinst'.

2) Choose the appropriate language by number and press enter.

3) A graphical window appears. Click 'OK'. The system is now inspected.

4) Ensure all serviceable components are highlighted. An 'Archive' path needs to be entered to back up existing files for each component. Each component line requires its own entered archive directory.

NOTE: The graphical upgrade program does not create these directories. It is looking for them to already be on the hard drive. Open a command prompt and create them using the 'MKDIR' command.
Example: 'MKDIR C:\Archive\Multimedia' for the multimedia component - when the directory is created, enter C:\Archive\Multimedia in the archive path in the graphical program. Now it will accept the directory and continue when 'Service' is clicked.

5) Follow the on screen directions. Instruct the program to overwrite (continue) for any file name or driver it questions. After file copy is complete, shut down OS2 and reboot. After boot, the system unlocks locked files. The fixpack installation is now complete.
