Section 1: Building the disks.
Section 2: Installation instructions.
Section 3: CID installation notes.
1) Building the diskettes.
The installation diskettes are self extracting diskette images. To create the diskettes, insert a blank, formatted floppy diskette into the floppy drive, change to the directory where the file was downloaded, and type in ACP2000A.exe and press enter. This will expand the first diskette image to the floppy drive. Repeat this process with the second file (ACP2000B.exe).
2) Installation
You can install on Windows 95/98/NT4/NT5 by simply running
A:\SETUP.EXE
This is not required for Win95/98/NT5, as this is an INF Based install, but it is the easiest way to start your install.
What should I see?
If you are running Windows 95/98 this should cause a new device to be found and launch the Hardware Wizard. Proceed through normally. Note that on OSR2 you will need to tell it that the disk is in drive A:\ twice. No reboot is needed, and the modem should appear on your desktop.
If you are running Windows NT4 this should start the process of copying files to your hard disk. You will need to reboot the computer to start the DSP and Modem Services. You will then need to add the 'ThinkPad Data Fax Modem' using the Control Panel 'Modems' applet. Let Windows autodetect your modem.
If you are running Windows NT5, you will be told you need to reboot, since NT5 only detects ISA PnP device once during boot. When prompted, simply point to the floppy disks (or wherever the install files are located).
Problems?
If you run SETUP because you wish to install a new build, but an existing build has not removed yet, you will be prompted and told that you need to remove the old software first. Then the Control Panel Applet will open automatically. Select the Utilites tab and press the 'Remove Driver Software' button. Windows NT will require a reboot. Once this is completed you can run SETUP to install the new build.
If the installation is copying files and you see any sort of errors indicating that a file was corrupt, you may have a bad diskette. Perform a full format (not a quick format) on the diskette to see if there are errors. If not, rebuild using the EMT utility.
3) CID installation notes
If you want to install from a LAN drive, you will need to have write access. This seems to be a limitation with the Windows 95/98 Hardware Wizard. If you do not have write access, simply copy the CID directory to your local hard disk and install from there. |
