8641-ED2, EDG, MD2, MDG
8641-EE1, EEE, EEL

Architecture
EISA/PCI
Micro Channel/PCI

Drive Interface
IBM PCI SCSI-2 Fast/Wide Raid adapter (Mylex 960P chip-set)
IBM ServeRaid adapter (IBM PowerPC chip-set)

It is recommended that all logical array drives be initialized and synchronized before initially loading any operating system.

Important note about the IBM ServeRaid adapter:
The IBM ServeRaid adapter does not provide driver support for Unix 3.2 v4.2x and Open Desktop/Server v3.0. If a raid adapter is required with these versions, use the IBM PCI SCSI-2 Fast/Wide Raid adapter (Mylex 960P chip-set).

SCO Unix 3.2 v4.2x and OpenDesktop/Server v3.0
Obtain the file 76h8962.exe from the IBM BBS. This self-extracting file (under DOS or OS/2) will create a diskette automatically. On this diskette, in the "\SCO" directory, is another self-extracting file called "sco3401.exe". Copy this file to your DOS or OS/2 harddrive and execute it. This file will create the mdac BTLD diskette which supports the IBM PCI SCSI-2 Fast/Wide Raid (Mylex) adapter running SCO Unix 3.2 v4.2 and SCO Open Desktop / Open Server v3.0. 76h8962.exe can be located on the IBM BBS (919-517-0001), anonymous ftp (ftp.pc.ibm.com/pub/pccbbs/pc_servers), and the World Wide Web (http://www.pc.ibm.com/searchfiles.html).

Insert the N1 diskette into the floppy drive and power on the system.

At the BOOT: prompt, type the following:
restart link=mdac Srom=mdac(0,x,0) <Enter>

x = scsi-ID of device. Srom=cdrom drive. In Server 320/520 systems, this should be already set to scsi-ID 6.

When prompted, insert the mdac BTLD into the floppy drive and press <Enter>.

Make sure the NUM LOCK key / light is on before selecting the keyboard type, otherwise possible key mis-mapping can occur. If installing Unix 3.2 v4.2 for the first time, always remember to install the Extended Utilities.

For mouse, select "Low Resolution Keyboard Mouse" (two button mouse).

For video, it is recommended to select "IBM VGA" to install. This can be changed as necessary through sysadmsh after installation.

If installing from cdrom, select "Boot Time Loadable (BTLD) CD ROM" and press <Enter>.

If installing from tape, select "Boot Time Loadable (BTLD) TAPE" and press <Enter>.

The rest of the installation should proceed normally.

SCO OpenServer v5.00 - v5.0.4

For the IBM PCI SCSI-2 Fast/Wide Raid adapter (Mylex 960P chip-set):
Obtain the file 76h8962.exe from the IBM BBS. This self-extracting file (under DOS or OS/2) will create a diskette automatically. On this diskette, in the "\OPENSRV" directory, is another self-extracting file called "mdac403.exe". Copy this file to your DOS or OS/2 harddrive and execute it. This file will create the mdac BTLD diskette which supports the IBM PCI SCSI-2 Fast/Wide Raid adapter running SCO Open Server v5.00 and v5.0.2. 76h8962.exe can be located on the IBM BBS (919-517-0001), anonymous ftp (ftp.pc.ibm.com/pub/pccbbs/pc_servers/ 76h8962.exe), and the World Wide Web (http://www.pc.ibm.com/searchfiles.html).
NOTE: SCO OpenServer v5.0.4 already includes this driver!

For the IBM PC ServeRaid adapter (IBM PowerPC chip-set):
Obtain the file 84H7124.EXE if the IBM PC ServeRAID Adapter Support diskette for SCO that ships with the system is not available. This self-extracting file (under DOS or OS/2) will create the ipsraid BTLD diskette which supports the IBM ServeRaid adapter. 84H7124.EXE can be located on the IBM BBS (919-517-0001), anonymous ftp (ftp.pc.ibm.com/pub/pccbbs/pc_servers/84h7124.exe), and the World Wide Web
(http://www.pc.ibm.com/searchfiles.html).

NOTE: This driver does NOT work with SCO OpenServer v5.0.4. A new driver, which will work with v5.00, v5.0.2 and v5.0.4, will be released soon.

Insert the BOOT diskette and power on the system.

For the IBM PCI SCSI-2 Fast/Wide Raid adapter:
For v5.0.4, simply press <Enter> at the BOOT: prompt. No BTLD is needed.

For v5.00 and v5.0.2, type the following at the BOOT: prompt:
restart ahslink=mdac <Enter>

For the ServeRaid adapter:
For v5.00 and v5.0.2, type the following at the BOOT: prompt:
restart ahslink=ipsraid <Enter>

When prompted, insert the mdac or the ipsraid BTLD (depending on the raid adapter being used) into the floppy drive and press <Enter>.

If loading the mdac BTLD, press "a" to use the default character major 6 when prompted. Although the driver may be replaced (r) in the EISA/PCI systems, do not replace the driver on the MCA/PCI systems or the following messages will occur:

Warning: alad: adapter 0 Error: Selection Timeout
Warning: alad: adapter 0 Error: Selection Timeout
Warning: hd: no root controller found

Note: If using the MCA/PCI system with the IBM SCSI-2 F/W Streaming Raid adapter /A (microchannel adapter), the above errors may still occur even though the on-board host adapter BIOS has been disabled. Restart the installation using the following parameters at the BOOT: prompt:
restart ahslink=mdac Sdsk=mdac(0,0,1) <Enter>

When loading the mdac BTLD, the driver must be replaced by typing "r" when prompted.

At the media selection, select the options (bus, scsi-id, etc) for your system and continue with the installation. If installing on the ServeRaid adapter, you must specify the bus/channel the media device is attached to (1, 2, or 3). Boot to your ServeRaid configuration disk if unsure. "Adapter", "bus" and "LUN" should all be 0 for the IBM PCI SCSI-2 Fast/Wide Raid adapter.

For mouse, select "Low Resolution Keyboard Mouse" (two button mouse).

For video, it is recommended to select "IBM VGA" to install. This can be changed as necessary through scoadmin or the video configuration manager after installation.

It is recommended to select "deferred" for the network adapter until the Advanced Hardware Supplement for the operating system can be applied (see the SCO OpenServer Supplements section). This supplement contains updated network drivers and patches. The Advanced Hardware Supplement is already included in SCO OpenServer v5.0.4!

When loading the mdac BTLD, the following message may occur while files are being copied from the CD:
"Extracting BTLD distribution for mdac ... /etc/uadmin getdev b mdac: No such device (error 19)" This requires no user input and may be ignored.

When loading the ipsraid BTLD, the following two messages may occur while files are being copied from the CD:
"Extracting BTLD distribution for ipsraid ... /etc/uadmin getdev b ips: No such device (error 19)" This requires no user input and may be ignored.

"dynamic linker: dlvr_audit: Cannot open /dev/zero for file /lib/libprot.so.1" (note: there may be many lines of this displayed) Simply press Enter to continue with the installation when prompted.

The rest of the installation should proceed normally. When the installation is complete and the "Safe to Power Off" message is displayed, remove any diskettes from the floppy drive and press Enter to reboot.

For OpenServer v5.00 and v5.0.2:
Install Release Supplement D, Networking Supplement 1.0.0, and Advanced Hardware Supplement 5.2 (refer to the SCO OpenServer Supplements section). Install any other supplements as necessary. When complete, the Unix kernel will be re-linked. Shutdown and restart the system for the changes to take affect.
