IBM PC300GL (Type 6275, 6285) - ViaVoice microphone setup errors after installation

SYMPTOM:
After re-installing ViaVoice and adjusting the audio level in microphone setup, the program returns the following, or similar error:
"A problem has occurred (SMAPI RC=215). If this problem occurs again, restart the microphone setup wizard."
PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
This tip applies to IBM PC300GL Series 6275/6285 systems where ViaVoice has been previously uninstalled, then re-installed.
This tip may also apply to other Commercial Desktop or IntelliStation systems supplied with ViaVoice software.
FIX:
1. From Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, select to un-install ViaVoice.
2. When uninstallation is complete, delete the ViaVoice directory on the hard drive through Windows Explorer.
3. Reinstall ViaVoice, then readjust the audio level in microphone setup.
