IBM PC300GL (Type 6561)/PC300PL (Type 6562, 6862) - Safe handling procedure

Applicable to: World-Wide

TEXT:
The purpose of this tip is to provide recommended safe handling instructions for lifting or carrying the IBM PC300GL, IBM PC300PL, and 6893 E-Pro systems.

Depending on how much pressure is used when lifting or moving the system, the servicer or customer may obtain small fingertip cuts if the sharp metal edges of the EMC shield at the back of the system unit are grasped.

The following machine types and models are affected:

IBM PC300GL Series 6561 Systems All Models
IBM PC300PL Series 6562 Systems All Models
IBM PC300PL Series 6862 Systems All Models
IBM E-Pro Series 6893 Systems All Models

When viewing the metal EMC shield located at the back of the system unit, the exposed metal "fingers" are located in the following positions:

5 Metal "Fingers"

6 Metal "Fingers" | |
_________________________| _|2 Metal

|____________________________________________________|

To avoid the EMC edges, it is recommended that these system units be grasped and carried at the left and right sides instead of the front and back of the system unit.

If the system unit must be carried by grasping the front and back, it is recommended that the indention at the center rear of the system unit be used as a lifting point rather than the EMC shield area shown above.

Beginning July 1998, a re-designed EMC shield will be used on all machine types and models identified above.
