TP 380,385,560X/Z,600,770 - ConfigSafe Uninstall gives no option to cancel
Applicable to: World-Wide
SYMPTOM:
By default the ConfigSafe uninstall utility is set to a silent uninstall, with no allowance for cancelling the uninstall. Once the Uninstall option is selected from any available location on the system (Start Menu, ThinkPad Customization Center), ConfigSafe and all previously taken System Snap Shots are deleted.
CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad 560X, 600, 770/E/ED, 380, 385 or any other ThinkPad preloaded with ConfigSafe.
TEMPORARY WORKAROUND:
If an identical machine is available, the ConfigSafe import, export features could be used to restore a configuration.
If backups of \CSAFE95 and it's sub-directory are available with a CONCURRENT version of the systems' registry, they should be restored to the system.
PERMANENT SOLUTION:
A warning allowing the option to cancel the uninstall can be turned on by editing the \CSAFE95\CFGSAFE.INI file. Perform the following steps to enable this feature:
1. Make a backup of CFGSAFE.INI located in the CSAFE95 directory.
2. Double click on CFGSAFE.INI or use an editor to open the file.
3. Approx. 7 lines down from the top locate SILENTUNINSTALL=1
4. Change the one to a zero so the line now reads SILENTUNINSTALL=0
5. Save changes.
