TP 380XD,385XD,560X,600,770/E/ED - Installing USB support after reloading from CABS directory

SYMPTOM:
After reinstalling Windows 95 from the CABS directory on to a formatted C hard drive, the USB support is not enabled. This will usually occur when the CABS directory is copied over to the D drive and the C drive is then formatted to free up space.

CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad with USB support preloaded with Windows 95.

SOLUTION:
To enable USB support:

1. Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove programs
2. On the Install/Uninstall tab select the Install button
3. Select Next
4. On the 'Command line for installation program type in:

D:\cabs\USBSUPP.EXE

Answer Yes to the following prompts to Install USB support

5. Reboot
6. Copy the file USB.INF from D:\CABS to C:\WINDOWS\INF overwriting the existing file.
7. Copy the file UHCD.SYS from D:\CABS to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM overwriting the existing file.
8. Go to System Properties, Device Manager
9. Select the ? icon listed as Unknown devices and click the REMOVE button.
10. Follow the prompts and reboot.

After system restarts, go to Device Manager and verify USB support is enabled. You should see a section titled: Universal serial bus controller. There you should see two devices listed:

Intel 82371AB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller (this may vary by machine in some cases)
USB Root Hub
