TP General - MS Fax will not fax more than twice unless the computer is rebooted

Applicable to: World-Wide

Symptom:
When using Microsoft Fax and attempting to fax more than twice without a reboot, on the third attempt the fax will try to start but there will be no window indicating the fax is processing and the fax will not be sent and this will continue until the machine is rebooted.

Configuration:
Any ThinkPad running Windows 95 using IE 4.0 and Microsoft Exchange 4.0 where both MS Mail and Internet Mail are configured in the same profile.

Solution:
The solution to this problem is to create two different profiles within Microsoft Exchange. One with just Internet Mail in it and the other with all the other features in it.

The following are instructions on how to create these profiles.

1. If the Inbox icon is on the desktop right click on it and go to the properties. If the Inbox is not on the desktop, got to Control Panel and double-click on the Mail and Fax Icon.

2. Click on Show Profiles, there should be one profile already listed.

3. Click on the Add button and you will get a setup wizard that will allow you to install MS Fax, MS Mail, Internet Mail. Each of these will have checks in the box next to it. Uncheck the Internet Mail setting. Then continue on with the setup.

4. Follow the instructions on the screen.

5. When the wizard is done it should show that you have a new profile with MS Fax, MS Mail, and the Personal Address Book and Personal folders.

6. You now have two profiles.

Read this very carefully
7. The next step depends on your setup. If you are using Internet Mail currently, then you will want to leave Internet Mail in the profile that it is in and remove MS Fax, and MS Mail from that profile. (They are in the other profile and will continue to work fine).

8. If the you are using MS Mail, then you will want to go to your original profile and remove Internet Mail and leave MS Fax and MS Mail in that profile. Once that is done then go to the second profile and remove MS Fax and MS Mail. This is done by clicking on that profile and then the properties button selecting each of these and then clicking the remove button.

9. Once these are all removed from the second profile then you must click on the Add button and add Internet Mail to the second profile.

10. Once this is completed reboot the machine and it should all work correctly.
