Applicable to: World-Wide

Considerations for Windows NT
These considerations are for the 385XD that came preloaded with Windows 98 and you are going to be installing Windows NT. These considerations are applicable only to the countries residing in EMEA. At the bottom of the document is a list of considerations that apply world-wide.

o CardBus PC Cards are not supported on Windows NT 4.0.

o When using an IBM PCMCIA Token-Ring card under Windows NT 4.0, use the Token-Ring device driver IBM provides, not the Microsoft PCMCIA Token-Ring driver.

o Position/size is not adjusted when stopping full screen playback with MediaPlayer, then returning to desktop with 64K color modes under Windows NT 4.0.

o An exception error occurs when playing back Indeo AVI file with ActiveMovie on the system. The customer had installed IE4 on the system. This exception occurs under Windows NT 4.0.

o There is a QuickTime movie Playback quality problem on Windows NT 4.0 with IE4.01 installed. Random, small regular blocks appear in the video.

o In Windows NT 4.0, hibernation is not supported when the drive is formatted for NTFS.

o PC Card Power Management on Windows NT has the following limitations:
- Suspend in AC mode - Modem, ATA, Flash PC Cards do not enter standby mode.
- Hibernation in AC mode - Network modem ATA, Flash PC Cards do not enter hibernation mode.
- Hibernation in Battery mode - SCSI and CardBus PC Cards do not enter hibernation mode.
- In Windows NT 4.0, hibernation is not supported when the drive is formatted for NTFS.

The following two considerations apply world-wide:
o Multifunction PC cards are not supported in the system.

o RI resume is not supported with CardWizard under Windows NT 4.0.

o The 3270 Emulation card and 5250 Emulation card do not work with CardWizard under Windows NT 4.0.

o ATA Boot is not supported under Windows NT 4.0.

o ZV Card is not supported under Windows NT 4.0.

o After repeatedly entering suspend mode several times, the amount of time that it takes to suspend increases. You must shut down Windows NT and restart the computer to alleviate this symptom. To prevent this from happening, do not repeatedly enter suspend mode.

o After pausing (CTRL + P) during the playback of an AVI file using Active Movie or Media Player and then suspending and resuming the computer, when you attempt to restart the AVI file, the video remains paused but the sound continues. To correct this symptom you must stop the playback and then restart it. To prevent this from happening, do not suspend/hibernate the computer during playback of an AVI file by Active Movie or Media Player.

o Switching between an external monitor and the LCD screen (Fn + F7) while playing an AVI, MPEG, or Wave file causes a duty noise. To correct this symptom, pause and then restart the file. To prevent this from happening, do not switch between the LCD and an external monitor during playback of an AVI, MPEG or Wave file.
