IBM IntelliStation M Pro (Type 6889)/IBM PC300PL (Type 6862, 6892) - Alert on LAN (AoL) Usability Tips

TEXT:
The following are Alert on LAN software configuration and usability tips:
SYMPTOM:
Duplicate events messages may be issued to network administrator when the network is reconnected after a LanLeash tamper (removal of network connection to client).
Cover tamper occurred. A cover tamper message would be sent.
LanLeash occurred. Disconnected from network.
Server reports loss of heartbeat.
System is reconnected to network.
Client reports LanLeash tamper.

Systems using AoL and LDCM Admin 3.3 for management server.
IMPACT/FIX:
There is no loss of information, only duplication of events. No corrective action is required.

SYMPTOM:
The cover tamper alert is received by network administrator as both an informational and critical alert. When the system is in a powered off state the cover tamper is displayed as an informational alert. When the system is in a powered on state, the cover tamper is displayed as a critical alert.

Systems using AoL and LDCM Administrator 3.3
IMPACT/FIX:
There is no loss of information if policy on the Management Server is set to monitor both critical and information events.
Set policy on LDCM Admin to monitor both informational and critical alerts to detect cover tampers.

SYMPTOM:
If the network administrator enters an invalid IP address for the management server from the Netfinity console, no error message is given and Netfinity closes. When the Netfinity console is re-opened, Netfinity has automatically assigned an invalid ID.

Systems using AoL and Netfinity Manager 5.20.
IMPACT/FIX:
The network administrator must enter only valid IP addresses. Check AoL settings on the client for correct IP addresses after making updates.

SYMPTOM:
Netfinity Manager AoL receiver defaults to 5001. The AoL client defaults to 5500.

Systems using AoL and Netfinity Manager 5.20.
IMPACT/FIX:
There is no loss of information. The network administrator should change the AoL receiver port in version 5.20.
The error may also be corrected by installing Netfinity Manager version 5.20.1.

SYMPTOM:
Netfinity manager reports, or interprets that a machine is missing incorrectly. The missing machine alert may be due to a machine that is currently in a hang condition.

Systems using AoL and Netfinity Manager 5.20.
IMPACT/FIX:
There is no loss of information. This is currently a usability issue and may be corrected in a future release of Netfinity Server.

SYMPTOM:
Netfinity Manager may not report Pre-Boot or POST codes. If error codes are found during POST, AoL will send the error codes to a Netfinity server manager. The AoL server manager may not report the error code.

Systems using AoL and Netfinity Manager 5.20.
IMPACT/FIX:
There is no loss of information. This is currently a usability issue and may be corrected in a future release of Netfinity Server.
