TP 701 - OS/2 Trap 000d error on bootup
Applicable to: World-Wide
SYMPTOM:
When loading IBM's OS/2 Warp operating system, users can experience a TRAP-000d in ES6881$ error while the operating system is booting.
CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad 701 running OS/2 Warp
SOLUTION:
This problem is caused when the IBM OS/2 Operating system tries to load the device driver for the ESS Audio chip, however, the TRAP-000d error will occur if the ThinkPad audio chip power has been turned off, or, if the audio has been disabled. To resolve this problem, press Fn + F1 to enter the system configuration utility. Ensure that on page 1 of the BIOS settings that the Audio Power is set to 'On' or 'Auto', and also ensure that within the Audio System settings on page 4 of the BIOS configuration utility that the ThinkPad audio does have an interrupt request (IRQ) defined and is NOT 'disabled'.
There is also an updated audio device driver for OS/2 for the ESS Audio chip which users should apply to resolve other problems with conflicts between the ThinkPad audio and PCMCIA cards.
